... So, I have some Brown Sex link and Dark Brown Layer mix on the way that could use a home. The order was placed in April, but now they say on their web site that the soonest delivery is August.

If you don't find someone I'm interested in your extras - I have a place in Chino Valley (near Prescott) that I'm going to split my flock of 18 (I can only keep 10 here in Mesa). Let me know the details when they come in & how much you'd like to get for them. I really need a bigger flock in Chino Valley than what I plan to send up there.

Always best not to count the chickens before they hatch! I will be posting here when they arrive, just can not resist the cute chick photos! They are shipping from Ideal, in Texas, so I hope the heat is not too much by June. I got the brown sex-links for my neighbor, she says she only wants 4, that leaves 6 of them. When they see them, the "only 4" could go out the window, so I ordered 10 of them. The 5 mixed dark egg layers are also extras. I would be happy to let have you have the extras for the same price I paid, especially if you want to pick them up right away and brood them. I am planning on brooding them all since my neighbor has never had chickens before. I got a new refrigerator which had a very nice sized box for a brooder. I think that raising the chicks is the best part of having chickens, but there is always a risk with the tiny babies!

My son and daughter-in-law live in Surprise. They would love to be able to buy fresh eggs. I told them I would ask in here. Does anyone in that area sell their eggs?

I've seen my nearby neighbors in Mesa/Phx area that sell eggs on nextdoor. Maybe they have that in Surprise?

I completely agree... your neighbor could always need more once they see 'em...keep me posted and I'll be your backup - I would probably be able to get them within a week of arrival depending on weather/brush fire conditions- I go back and forth between Mesa/Chino Valley especially in summer.

Thank you everyone for your responses! They got a lot of extra time this morning in the grass inside their movable run and loved it! We are starting to build their enclosure this weekend and they'll be spending a lot more time outside once that is done.

I have decided to not feed them medicated feed, they have been running around in one of our raised garden beds for almost a week so I think that will help build their immunity and I'll treat if need be.

On a separate note, I did have a question about our Buff Orpington. Her wings are so tiny with little feathers and she doesn't have any butt feathers coming in yet. They all are the same age. Is it normal for this breed to come in slower?
Our other 2 girls wings are bigger than their bodies when expanded. The BO (Maggie Mae) is a little chunk and she's super active and rowdy so I don't think that it's because she's not thriving. Her feathers also aren't flat against her body like the other two.

@jacivilla Different breed's grow at different rates, and some breed's will also start laying egg's sooner than other's.

On a separate note, I did have a question about our Buff Orpington. Her wings are so tiny with little feathers and she doesn't have any butt feathers coming in yet. They all are the same age. Is it normal for this breed to come in slower?

I kept Buff Orpingtons years ago. They were always the slowest -- last to lay, last to crow for the males. Even at 20 weeks, the males were just starting to crow.

BO are fluffy birds so you would not expect their feathers to be close to the body like a Leghorn's or a Rhode Island Red's feathers might be. The last BO I had took forever to mature. She did not lay her first egg until she was 11 months old.
