Yeah, Monkey see Monkey do with them, I get the first one or two eating and drinking and the rest follow, I just want to know that they all know, I don't want them going to new parents and they don't know how to teach them.. I know once they are out of my control, it's not my responsibility, but it would kill me if I found out that one of my chicks starved to death because the new parents didn't know how to care for them.
 
Does anyone have suggestions on how to build a extra large broody breaker? my current line up in the main flock is Pearl, Red, Midnight, Cruella and Goldie. My incubator has started hatching, I've got 3 so far out of 19, 2 for sure that have pipped and hatch day isn't till tomorrow if my dating isn't off. Those at least have new parents to go to.

After my stop at Tractor Supply, I went to our local Olsen's Feed store. They did not have any chick feed on the shelf at all, but the stock boy said they did have some in the back. That is where my neighbor gets her feed, and they will deliver to our house. It is a buck or tow less, too. They never sell chicks. I am planning to get the cage that Tractor Supply sells for a run, it is 8x8 and easy to move.

FYI The Olsen's Grain in Dewey usually sells chicks, but usually in March/April. They used to publish a list of the breeds and dates they'd have them.

How about using the garden panels (no-dig fencing, about 42 x 36 inches) and assembling one square for 2-3 birds each? It'd have to be in a corner/section of a secured run though.

One more idea, is the corrugated plastic from home depot, or possibly in smaller sizes:

You could buy it at teh store and cut with scissors or a box knife to fit it into your car. You can jab holes in it and zip tie it to the walls of the run, possibly staple if you have a staple gun. I once made a PVC chicken tractor and used this stuff for shelter (walls/ceiling) and it held up very well so I'd think a frame of PVC, lumber, even the garden panels, with this stuff to add wind break and /or shade might work.
 
I've had issues with my big incubator, holds 24, out of the last batch I hatched maybe 5 out of 22. Could not for the life of me figure out what the heck was going wrong, well, this time I taped the lid on using painters tape, only opened it for the candle on the 7th and 14th and then the 18th. 19 out of 24 eggs went into lock down, as of this morning I have 12 hatched and 2 more rocking, if I were to end up with a 100% hatch, would not hurt my feelings any. I've got at least 8 sold, and as cute as they all are, he might buy the whole batch.. I am tempted to keep one of them, it's a NN out of my blue egg from the Wingette. Starting to sound like chick day at Tractor Supply, lol.. The first little guy is maybe 5 mins old. He's # 12
