The dark eggs seem to be very popular. I will be interested to see how those are for you, they are all something I have never seen.

Morning all, have you been surviving this heat? we had 110 yesterday, got out early and got everyone tended too. I ended up with a hatch of 14 out of 19, They all went to the guy I'd hatched them for. Out of my broodies, Rose hatched one, Jill has hatched one, I've got Pearl due now on the 31st, all of her eggs she started with have gotten broken, if these don't survive to hatch and break her naturally, I'm going to have to stick her in the broody breaker prison. She's been broody long enough. I started with 31 eggs and now I believe I am down to 20. How does everyone deal with broodies? I've got to figure out something. I can't have them filling up all the nest boxes. Don't want to keep losing eggs to breakage. They are not special breed eggs, but eggs none the less.
I think you would have to move a broody to a separate run, with each broody having her own cage area. I have some cool old books that show separate coops in a field, each housing one broody and her chicks. If you move them to their own run, just give some eggs you don't care about, or those fake eggs, to see if they keep sitting. They might not like being moved and break themselves from being broody! A coop like your silkie coop would be perfect! You like building more and more coops, right?
Has anyone watched the movie "Psycho?" The "Bates" Motel? I'm thinking the "Broody" Motel.. Not sure how much room, what kinda coop, do I make a little one and just have all broodies in that area, or would they need separate spaces? it's looking more and more like I am going to have to build at least 2 more coops/run area's. lol. I am putting the silkies within the big run but separating it from the main flock coop/run. I'll have a 4 ft high, 4 ft deep and 8 ft long coop (32 sq ft), up a 1.5 ft off the ground so I won't loose that run area, which will be 8 ft x 8 ft (64 sq ft) run. I've presently got 6 silkies. I know that isn't going to last long..lol.. At the rate I am going, it's probably a good thing that we have 2.35 acres..lol. The area that I have the chickens in might be a 1/4 of a acre maybe. So I am restricting myself to that space. At least trying too, keeping them there keeps them closer to the house.. try to keep coyotes away, we've got a mess of them that live in the hills not far from us and they pass by here on their way down into the valley. So I don't know, suggestions?
I think if you had a big enough cage you could put them in one area. I have a mini coop that I can use for chicks or multiple broodies but fortunately I've had them get the bug one at a time and the heat seemed to take care of it for the first two. The third I take eggs from every day. She's out every morning and in the heat of the day but the coop is one of the coolest places for her so I'm not doing anything special and everyone wants to use the same box anyway.
