Arizona Chickens

Hi everyone! It’s been a while since I logged in :hugs Ive been helping babysit my neighbors grandkids since they came to visit for the summer so my days are full of giggling toddlers:love I tried to start a new hobby gardening but only the watermelon survived after the dogs started digging up everything haha hope everyone is doing well and surviving through the heat!
My dogs dug up the sprinkler system line.. but that was good, because I was dreading the thought of locating the leak! They found it! 😂

Hi there, AZ! I got a tracking # for my new chicks today. On the way from Texas! They should be here tomorrow or Friday. I will be getting some chicks from @rjohns39 soon, so these trial chicks will be available to locals here in AZ. I will only be keeping a few from this order.
5 Brown leghorn, 5 white rock, 3 brown sex link, 7 red sex link, 6 mix dark egg layer. My neighbor gets first pick. Someone on here was interested, too. I hope to post what I receive on here soon! Don't count your chickens before the Post Office calls! :lau

Great! rjohns39 just posted in another thread here today that I watch that they have 118 hatching egg's in their incubator right now. Now that's a lot of chick's to be hatching! :gigI thought that you were going to save a white rock for me.

Im so in love with my little chicks.. i decided to rename moon baby to Daisy Mae (that is actually Daisy Duck's official name), so that she and Minnie Mouse can be official BFF's.. and i also bought them chicken diapers and skirt tutus! I know, ridiculous!! 🤣

I think the vacuum is also in love..

Hi everyone, heat is starting to ramp up again :( , I've had to break two of my three broodies out in the main flock, I went out this evening about 6 to check on everyone, Midnight my remaining broody in the main flock had hatched 3 of the 6 eggs she's got, I'm hoping for the rest of them in the morning, They are sooo cute, it must have been to hot up under Mama as I saw just little head poking out. lol. I had to confess to my DH that I'd been saving eggs for hatching. lol. 3 NN egg's from the one NN that I have that lays the blue eggs and then 3 from my EE/OE in the main flock.. his comment? "well, there goes the bathroom counter again" That is where I keep the small incubator when hatching. At least I was good and didn't break out the big incubator.

Of course there are enough rocks for you to have more than one if you want! I want to keep maybe 3 of them to see how they are. I am getting 25 from Bob, and the boys will be looking for a home. I am not supposed to have roosters, but, maybe 1 boy might stay a while;)! I have been reading up on sexing barred birds~

I didn't want to be greedy, as you did mention that your neighbor has first dib's. I got these Blue Double Laced Barnevelder girl's because they lay a darker brown egg than my tan/off white egg laying Naked Neck's, plus the nice colored feathering. I'm staying away from any feathered leg's though.

My neighbor will be strongly steered towards the sex-links! I would not want a first-time chicken owner to have the rooster experience that I had! My first chickens were mailed from Murray McMurray in 1988. My daughter who was five, just about the age of the neighbor's daughter, fell in love with the "free exotic chick" (translated - little sultan rooster from hades)! We were allowed to keep roosters, and I had ordered the cheapest, straight run, orpingtons. It was difficult to get the kids to eat chicken even though I had lots of orpington roosters. So, I am encouraging my neighbor to want the sex-links in hopes of no pet roosters nextdoor. Even with the sexed rocks, there is some chance of getting a male. I would like for you to have at least 2 of the rocks, I would like to know how they grow out for you. And how they make babies with your nice NNs!

I have 14 little naked neck's in my brooder right now that are all different color's if you want or need some. I am going to keep the one that has the 5 toes on each foot though, as that one is a dorking mix.
