Ohhhhh, i knew there were showgirls, but i thought they just a recessive type of silkie.

Well i am happy about the blues i got.. excited about those. Anddd i guess i got myself sad unnecessarily.. im getting messages from people w failed hatches, so maybe the trio will get a home soon enough!

No, you do the cross on those and then keep the one's that have the Naked Neck's on them, but also have the 5 toes and darker skin that have come from the silkie parent. Then you breed those one's that you kept back to the silkies. That's so that you can improve the silkie type feathering on the future chick's.

Yay the 3 chicks found a great home with a family already experienced with chickens, who wanted to specifically add some bantams. So it is a very happy ending!

So now i moved the two blue cochin next to the big girls...

Question.. the big girls are VERY excited and talking quietly and trying to get as close to the new chicks.. does that mean they want to eat them, or they really want to use their mama instincts?

Should i still wait to put them together, or just go for it?

Me too! i only had one other response which was from someone who wanted them for his 3 year old , so demand isn't very high right now. Plus this family knows what they're doing, which makes me feel better.

Unless the big girl's are broody and been trying to sit on egg's trying to hatch them, I wouldn't trust putting them together yet. When you do try it, make sure that you are there to watch over them, because you may have to quickly remove the chick's.

Ok, i will wait then. They seemed to calm down and lose interest after they got their afternoon scratch snack. I need to work on updating and painting their current coop before i attach the expansion section. Will take me a couple weeks, so maybe i will integrate when i put it all together. It might seem like a "new" place to everyone.

OK, I'll try that. I just walked into the house after washing the chicken coop with dish detergent (Dawn). The coop's last owner had chickens with pale tan feathers, almost white. The Virkon S tablets are here, but that will probably have to wait for tomorrow when the coop is dry.

How are your chickens?

Everyone else is still alive thanks. The lead hen is being really good about keeping en eye out, but then all of them seem to be keeping an eye on the sky right now.

The lady who bought the chicks was nice enough to send my daughter a pic so she could see they were safe and happy. Apparently, they really liked the food bowl!!

And we decided on names for the two we are keeping... Violet and Iris

Anddddd i guess the initial excitement has worn down, no more egg song, just eggs! this is still only from 2 of them. The other two are squatting, it just isn't quite the time yet.

So if they're looking at the sky it might have been a hawk? The rooster was brave to defend his hens. RIP.

That’s sweet, but not likely. He was either the target and didn’t get to cover fast enough or he tried to move from cover to a new spot and got caught. It’s rare that roosters actually defend their flock, they isually give the alarm and run.
