Arizona Chickens

Just checked, and her nostrils are dry and clear, i can see up her little nostrils in fact. Nothing looks dry or crusty around her nose, beak or eyes. When i did pick her up just now, she got over excited, and even w her beak closed, it almost reminds me of heavy asthma breathing.

I don't know. I don't have house chicken's, and I'm just trying to help by suggesting different angle's. Could something in your house be contributing to her doing that?

I have asthma myself, so i don't use anything scented, i use soap and water for floors vs chemical cleaners, no plug-in type items. I also have a Honeywell air purifier in every room, and one near their run, so there is minimal dust ever to clean.

I was just reading a few articles, and it does seem like they can have an asthma like inflammation in the lung air sac. One person tried albuterol to help open the airways and sure enough their chicken improved. I guess it's possible, its just chronic inflammation of the airways. I'll try it and see if it helps. If she doesn't need it, it won't do anything. You only get as much as you breathe in, so it is self titrating. If it doesn't help, then it isn't inflammation related.

She is flying around w Minnie like a couple of crazy birds, so she is happy and active.

I just got one recommendation to switch her to wet mash.. ive been giving her "breakfast" each day that includes corn and other scratch goodies, so she might actually be running hot since she's such a piggy. Ill try that for a couple days and see how she does. She doesn't seem distressed at all, so I'm not feeling too worried as of yet.

I'm no expert - but I would try VetRx for anything respiratory (I think it's good for other things too maybe). Very readily available, it's sort of like vicks for chickens. Others may have better descriptions and experience to offer.

Youre the second person to recommend that. I will go pick some up shortly. ❤

Do you use non stick pans to cook?

44 eggs laid total thru Jan 4th. I'd say my flocks are doing very well.

I just gave them all the rootmatts & stems leftover after I harvested a bunch of microgreens for myself. They loved it. And I made a 10 egg fritatta for breakfasts this week. The dogs both got a couple eggs from the not-good-enough-for-people collection. I boiled/steamed a dozen ready to peel later today for DH lunch salads. So now I feel like things are a bit more under control.
