Arizona Chickens

I saw the first rabbit in my neighborhood in a very, very, long while!! I hope that means they are on the rebound. They used to drink from the tree drip sprinkler in the mornings.. 🤞

Taking a break from my kitchen cabinet project, I'm tired! But i did get the paints shaken this morning (they sat for a while) and bought a shop vac to hook up to the sander. I'll start sanding tomorrow!

Chickens seem to be very happy with Elsa moving in the coop with them full time. Peaceful little bunch! ✌🐥

Well, we have finally decided on a coop design. My gosh we've been going back and forth about it for so long it was starting to feel like this: :he

It'll be a 16x8 hoop coop with no frills, no fancy egg-roll-out nest boxes, for example, but it'll be secure, dry, well ventilated, and I think 6-8 pullets will like it very much. We'll add frills as we go along.

Whew. Planning stage is OVER. 🤓 And Sketchup, you will never know how much I truly hate you!

Not to encourage you, but 16x8 could hold more than 8 birds....

Sounds like paradise for chickens.:D

If anyone here travels pretty frequently, how do you ensure your hens are happy and safe while you’re away on trips? Some relatives wanted to plan a trip later in the year but I’m worried about leaving my hens alone for more than two or three days. Any tips?
I used to use a couple of PVC feeders (probably 4" diameter and almost 4 or 5 feet tall) that would hold a lot of food, and about a 4 gallon metal galvinized waterer (keeps water cool- still I would keep it in shade). Then I only needed a friend to double check that everything was still full and not tipped over or flew away in a wind storm. They wouldn't even have to come over to check every single day and they would get to keep all the eggs - these were church friends so they didn't charge me but I usually paid them since it was usually teens or preteens & parents might have to drive them. I was trying to help teach the preteens some work ethic by paying them to keep them interested.
