Arizona Chickens

Checking in from PA. It’s freezing here. I was cleaning pens today and I couldn’t feel my toes. Silkie breeding programs coming along. Them and my layers have been laying like crazy all winter.

keep you fingers crossed for some warm weather or send me some of that AZ warmth.

I have eggs in 2 incubators with some due to hatch tomorrow. Love hatch days.

Yes, I've heard that there's been lot's of snow and freezing weather. It's been breezy over here also, and that can also carry the wind chill factor. I'm still wearing a sweater when I go outside. You really do need to do something with that pet you all have up there named Punxsutawney Phil. If he's no longer around to see his shadow, the warm weather will return, maybe? :gig

Good luck with your hatch tomorrow!

Oooh.. the prettiest is challah bread.. plus you use the egg to make it golden on top.. and excellent for French toast!
Took your suggestion and made it. Not that pretty, :old :( but tasted good.:drool

Oh, no! He's lucky to have your support. Prayers sent.

Thanks', but my DH will probably be able to help him the most with his emotional adjustment. My DH went through the same thing when he lost his wife before he met me. The guy also has 2 dog's and a flock of chicken's.

The flock next door was really raising a racket over there. I found out that the reason why is that 3 of the hen's were in the same nesting box wanting to lay egg's, and a 4th hen was standing in the nesting box right next to it trying to figure out how she was going to get in the other nest with the other 3 girl's.
I know, I made the boxes double size -- 12x24" and there are 2. Still get cracked eggs, all of them want in the one right hand box, (at the same time of course) fake eggs, more hay, nothing helps! Birds will be birds.:th

I have larger sized nesting boxes also. Today it was me that had a white Naked Neck hen in one of the nesting boxes with the box next to that one that was empty. The red Naked Neck pullet that started laying egg's recently decided that she wanted to lay her egg there and like right now! She dived under the white hen's rear end and proceeded to lay the egg. I don't think that the white hen knew what to think about that.
