Arizona Chickens

Sometimes you can find something good up there that is priced right. Other time's it's trashy or they just want too much money for it.
Well, she got it at TSC and wants $15 for 50 lbs., so that sounds pretty good.

How long does it take after switching cockerels in the coop before you know for sure that any eggs laid were fertilized by the second male? The girls have sort of started laying--2 or 3 eggs, then a day or two off, then a few eggs again. Everybody got crushed egg shells today to help them along.

I'd wait for a month to make sure that they are fertilized by the second male, and not the first one.

OK, thank you. So far there don't seem to be any bullseyes from the coop where Gabriel was/Rolex is. But I want Rolex to sire the next batch.
Maybe you got lucky and Gabriel never was able to mate right and hit the mark. I'd keep checking those egg's for at least a week, and if there's still no bullseye you might be able to try after that when you do see fertilized egg's?

I don't want to start a batch quite yet, and they'll need to start laying more reliably so there are enough eggs to where any chicks would have siblings for company.

That sounded pretty high for oyster shell so I looked it up. Here's some at TSC for $12.49:

I think my last bag was a little less, but used to be $8.99!

Wow! I've been buying the little bags for about $6 or $8, and didn't know about the 50 lb. bags. Thanks.
Be careful with the big bags though. I dumped it into a small galvanized trash bin (15 or 20 galoon) and picked it up, moved it a few inches, repeat, etc. Dropped it on my toe! Over a year later, a trip to the ER, and two podiatrists, and it's just now doing much better.

Maybe it would be better to have the thing that you will store it at sitting up on a pallet, and then dump it in that. No need to be moving it around then and hurting your toes.
