Arizona Chickens

Did that pattern on the eggs come naturally,, or was there something in the coloring kit to do such???:love
Loooooong ago when I was growing up,, Mom did not have coloring supplies like available now. She boiled the eggs with onion skins. They came out light brown/tan in color.
I just did the same thing I always did growing up--half white vinegar and half boiling water in a cup with food coloring added in, then put the egg in and wait until the color is dark enough. Up until last year, I always used store bought eggs. I learned that the bloom on eggs from your own flock has to be completely scrubbed off, or those spots happen. Oh well, it made them a little more interesting. And I dropped a cup on one of them and cracked it. This year I'll do a better job of scrubbing them.

I think that @cavemanrich like's that pattern on the egg's and wanted to know how to recreate it for his own Easter basket. :gig

You must have read my mind:highfive::yesss: I do indeed like the way they came out. I will try it with some of my eggs this year:thumbsup

I kind of liked the pattern on the blue one and used it as an avatar for a few weeks. I plan to dye Easter eggs the same way this year. With seven girls, there are lots of eggs! :)

I still need to sell those other 5 older mix breed pullet's that are less then a year old and are laying egg's,
Wish I was closer,,, I would take about 3 of those and make them mine. Had some losses, and down to 5 chickens. Only 3 of those still lay.
Now with this avian flu going on,, the swap meet at the fairgrounds is cancelled. I need to add adult grown pullets to my flock only. Cant chance Chicks, because of possibility of cockerels in many breeds, and don't have brooder facilities.
My cats do not bother my chickens (grown),,,, but baby chicks are like :droolChicken nuggets:drool

Sorry that you live so far away. You can't blame them for cancelling those swap meet's or even bird show's in those area's that the bird flu has been showing up in. It's for the safety of everyone's flock's to help to stop the spread.

I just boiled up 2 dozen of those 5 girl's egg's yesterday, because I was getting so many. Last week I had boiled up a dozen egg's, and then peeled 8 of them, and chopped them up to mix into some wet feed for them. They pigged out, but ate the feed right along with it all. My flock get's spoiled here.

I used to boil up eggs for my chickens ,,,, whenever I found a hidden nest. The eggs were questionable for my consumption,,, but not for chickens.
These weren't old, or from a hidden nest. I go out there several time's a day to check on them and to collect egg's. I just get more egg's then what me and the dog are eating. I had 6 dozen in the bottom drawer of my refrigerator, and the bottom shelf was at about 4 dozen more. I boiled up the oldest egg's, so that I could rotate some more of them.

I know you have just too many eggs. :highfive: From my flock currently, the production is still slow,, with only 3 laying. I have been baking quite a bit lately,, so egg use is high. We purchase store eggs regularly for that reason.
I do bake multiple loaves of such, and give away to my grown children when they stop by. As well as some neighbors.
