Arizona Chickens

My boss' grown son in Flag had to evac on Tuesday with 1/2 hour notice, they are ok but not allowed back yet. It's very hazy up here north of Prescott with Tunnel and Crooks Fires on both sides (but not closeby). I'm grateful that I can't smell the smoke so far - just have a very hazy view.

I moved out here from Flagstaff several years ago, and am concerned about two friends in the area of the Tunnel fire.

Fortunately, (fingers crossed), it hasn't been too smoky out here so far. I'm in east central Arizona.
I hope you and your friends remain safe! Especially with them wanting to do control burns and the winds picking up on days they say “Let’s start a fire! 🔥🔥🔥

Hi all! I'm moving to Tucson area here in the next few months and am SO EXCITED to finally be able to have a teeny bit of land to have chickens on once more! It's been many years since I've had my own fluffy butts and I couldn't be more excited!

If anyone has hen/chick recommendations, I would love to hear them. Open to all breeds right now and goodness knows I'll be another victim of chicken math soon enough.

Welcome! glad you found our state thread. I recommend anything known to be tolerant of our extreme heat, but lots of people have been successful with other breeds like dual purpose breeds. And Tucson doesn't get as hot or for quite as long into the nighttime as the Valley. Enjoy Arizona once you get here!
