I have 2 Bielefelder cockerel's that I have been growing out over here. The one that's the oldest I hatched on January 17th of this year and has yet to let out a crow. My other cockerel that I hatched out on February 18th hasn't crowed yet neither. If they do, it's ok though because I can have rooster's where I'm at, and I'm going to be breeding and hatching later from my Bielefelder's.

Can you keep two of them, even separately, in case the one you initially prefer, gets mean?

Well... He's from England and hasn't fully adjusted to the heat, apparently. It's only been 13 years, you see. Never mind that everything is heightened for dramatic effect.

I'm very tempted but my girls are only about 4.5-5 weeks old. The husband also banned roosters but you know how that goes. They are allowed on my property and would probably really annoy my creepy neighbor.

Yes, that's one of the reason's why I have 2 that I'm growing out. I have a backup if one doesn't work out. If neither are mean and work out ok, then I will also have 2 rooster's that I can switch around for fertilized egg's, and the 2 boy's hatched from shipped egg's that I got from different states.

I haven't developed this as a breed. They originated over in Germany. Green Fire Farm's imported them. The boy's of this breed might just be slower to develop then some other breed's and maybe that's why they haven't crowed yet? My oldest boy is only 4 month's old now.

How was your experience with Greenfire? I'm on the prowl for some Isbars and they are one of a very few who have them.

I didn't buy mine directly off of the Green Fire Farm's website, and I'm not sure that they sell the hatching egg's there on it. Mine came through Ebay. They have some there that people have to make bid's on, but I got the Buy it Now, because I didn't want to play around with the bidding game. I noticed that Ebay does have the hatching egg's for the Isbar's, if you'd like to try them here:

Oh, and if you were wondering why I bought hatching egg's instead of chick's- I believe that hatching the chick's myself has less of a chance in transporting a disease from somewhere else that could infect my flock that I already have here.
