I picked up 5 pullets end of July. So if two are laying, I guess that means I now have 3 pullets and 2 hens? How many pullets do you have?

That's about the same setup I have but I use plastic egg cartons that I numbered instead of bins so we eat the oldest eggs first and I shuffle them all forward to carton 1, 2, 3 etc once a week.If anything won't come off the egg goes into 1) really dirty eggs: a bin for dogs/chickens OR 2) slightly dirty eggs: a bin for just us to use. I rarely ever wash the eggs- just sort like this and eggs in bin 1 or 2 are fully cooked before anyone eats it.
Technically, a pullet isn't a hen until she is a year old even if she is laying egg's already.I picked up 5 pullets end of July. So if two are laying, I guess that means I now have 3 pullets and 2 hens?
Someone correct me if I'm wrong but aren't they still pullets until they are 1 yr old?I picked up 5 pullets end of July. So if two are laying, I guess that means I now have 3 pullets and 2 hens?
Yes, rotating the egg's to use the oldest one's first is a good idea. When I have too many egg's, the oldest carton's get boiled up for the dog and chicken's.That's about the same setup I have but I use plastic egg cartons that I numbered instead of bins so we eat the oldest eggs first and I shuffle them all forward to carton 1, 2, 3 etc once a week.

As long as the egg is cooked and doesn't look like an egg to them, they shouldn't want to turn around as eat them after they lay one in the box. That sounds like a lot of work. Mine get theirs half assed scrambled and microwaved.

So at what age are they considered pullets and not just chicks?Technically, a pullet isn't a hen until she is a year old even if she is laying egg's already.
