Arizona Chickens

No thanks for reminder - anything to keep from wasting feed is key now!
You've got that right!

Edit: Use a lighter colored bucket for it that has a lid. The light color will allow you to see the level of the feed in it without having to lift the lid each time. Set it up on cement block's to raise it off the ground to help to keep the mice out of it if you have any.

Now I know my extra hens (packing peanut sex-links) went to a really good home... CCM (Crazy Chicken Man) trained them to carve a pumpkin - they got the eyes pretty good!
I call CCM a Chicken Whisperer...LOL

I'm waiting for Olsen's to mill their own brand All Purpose Poultry and will get 5+ bags to fill ALL my feed cans to hedge against low stock/high price over winter. We'll go thru that in about 6+ weeks.
Do you know how much protein they plan to put in, if they do their own? I sure wish they'd have some generic organic in their brand.

Good morning AZ. I hope you’re all well. I’ve been outside this morning already. I expected it to be cooler since it’s not supposed to warm up much. It’s actually not too bad, even with the breeze. I imagine it’ll be a bit nippier closer to sunrise though.

We put covers over the front of the coop yesterday afternoon to help keep the crew out of the breeze and cold somewhat; Stella and her chicks are still sleeping in a nesting box. Speaking of chicks, we’re down to six; I’m pretty sure a neighborhood cat got one so I take my BB gun out with me in hopes of catching it in the yard. I plan to hit it in the butt as a warning, but if that doesn’t work I’ll trap and take it to the pound. That’s about it for me, have a great weekend!

FYI, I had a round with the feral cats up here. If it's not pettable/adoptable, they won't take it. If it's a neighbor's owned cat, you might be OK, I think they only take them by appointments though. Funny I think they still come out to pick up dogs....

My neighbor is a CCL - crazy cat lady - she takes care of a bunch of ferals (all she's trapped/fixed) in our immediate area (Yavapai County). She has resources to call for vouchers to take trapped ferels to a vet to get fixed and then release in same area. She's gone for another week on RV trip. I'm taking care of a kitten confined in her barn that we trapped right before she left. She'll use a voucher to get it fixed when she gets back since it was too young before.

TLDR(Too Long Didn't Read)---Even if they won't take it in they might know a voucher resource to at least fix it so it won't make more!

Good to know. If they won’t take it the cat won’t make it.
