Arizona Chickens

One of my EEs (Henrietta). My 3 EEs are the only ones that seem to go broody.

I'd be molting too, or rather, melting, if I had to stay outdoors all day in this heat!:gig
It looks like you have been basically having a broody summer.

Yes, this is not the time of year for you to be wearing a fur or feather coat. I don't blame the animals or chicken's trying to get rid of their's.

I just ate some ice cream and shared some with my dog Buster. I left him a little bit in the container, and he was up to his eyebrows in it licking it out.

My girl seems to be better now from her impacted crop. :wee

She's out of the breaker crate just in time for a broody gal to go in there. lol

Been trading out ice jugs from the water bucket and hosing down the ground. It just hit 121 here. 🥵

On a totally separate note, just wondering if there is anything unusual about my roo's feathers. They seem all curled up and didn't know if that meant anything.
So glad for your hen ❤️

No clue on your boy...kinda looks like his feathers got damaged somehow though. Take it they looked normal and changed to this?

Happy Buster!

Yes, it just got picked up. My husband called a friend of his that called a Mexican friend of his that handles goats, and he and another guy loaded up the free goat and just drove off. I have been able to get to my coop now. I don't know if the goat will be eaten or not, but it's not my problem.
In Mexican culture it is very common to eat goat and with how big Homer is, he will make an amazing meal. They normally keep one goat as a pet and all others are livestock for eating or drinking it’s milk.

When those guy's were here, they told me that they worked for a dairy farm down the road not far from here, so maybe Homer has other goat friend's now?

I've been noticing his feathers changing like that for awhile. Your question prompted me to look back at some of my photos. (Am I the only one who has tons of pics of their chickens? Lol) I can see that they started changing in June and have just gotten more... frayed or curly looking... since. He'll be 10 months old on August 1st.

Been having some odd egg happenings here with this heat. Not only is egg production waay down, the few eggs I'm getting are not consistently in the nestbox.

One egg was apparently laid in the water of their wading pool. It had split open but thankfully they didn't eat it.

Yesterday, hubby was feeding them all watermelon on the patio. After they wandered off one by one to roam and forage, I noticed an egg right on the patio, not 12" from my husband's feet!

And then another one I found just barely under the elevated garden bed next to their run.

These were laid by at least 2 different hens.

A different hen has twice now used the lower nestbox. That's the first time the lower box has been used period.

Writing this out made me start to wonder whether there is something wrong with the usual nestbox. But that upper box is still being used by the broody gals when they are being broody.

Just odd happenings...

It's most likely from the higher heat that's causing it. On the hottest day's my egg count is down too, or eggs are layed in different places. Your heat over there has been even higher then mine over here.

I've been scrambling up some of the older eggs that are in my fridge to thin my stock of them down. Today I scrambled up 8 egg's along with some leftover fried rice in some wet feed for them. I do it that way so that they have to eat the feed too along with the added treats in it. I have it cooling off now so it won't be hot when I take it out there to them.
