Arizona Chickens

@Happy Novogens I thought I remembered seeing something about a mite that can leave a chickens feathers frayed but I sure couldn't find anything on it with Google! Anyway...no clue still but that does look like damaged feathers versus molt to me. :idunno Hope he molts out soon and goes back to feather perfect for you. He's a handsome boy!

Crazy heat lately isn't it! Maybe that bottom nest has less ventilation and heats up more. I saw a post somewhere on here discussing how nest boxes need ventilation as well in hot climes.

Thanks. I think he's handsome too! (He came from Bluebaby.)

I made the nestboxes with heat in mind. They are rather large, have airflow in the back at the roof & the roof slants up (from back to front). I have a pic somewhere showing 5 hens in the upper box at one time, lol!

Still, I wonder if it's hot in there-- hotter than out in the run anyway. Poor girls.

It's reading 116 today. Cooler than the last couple days. Tomorrow is supposed to be down to 111. I hope so.

I just found out that the fire over there in Ash was started by a bored fireman looking for some excitement. How sad.

When we had index in the 300+ I avoided going outside, and wore a mask when I had to go.

I have no idea, but according to what they have been saying on the new's, we have been under some type of heat bubble. It's not fun, believe me. All of these fires happening and that propane explosion over by the airport doesn't help anything neither with this heat. We have also had at least a couple of the recycling places burn up too.

This is the one about the propane explosion over next to the airport. It even burned up peoples car's in the airport parking lot, and damaged peoples homes that lived nearby.

Wow, the news team said they don't have any aerial footage because it's too hot for the news helicopters to fly. It looks like someone was able to use drones later.

Imagine hot how the firefighters are in their masks and all their gear! 🥵

Exploding propane tanks, my gosh. They have to fight the fire from so far back. I hope everyone is okay.

You've got that right. It's already too hot out there even without the fires going on. I can also imagine how the people that parked the cars that got burned in the airports parking lot will feel once they no longer have their cars to drive back home in.
