@Happy Novogens I thought I remembered seeing something about a mite that can leave a chickens feathers frayed but I sure couldn't find anything on it with Google! Anyway...no clue still but that does look like damaged feathers versus molt to me.
Hope he molts out soon and goes back to feather perfect for you. He's a handsome boy!
Crazy heat lately isn't it! Maybe that bottom nest has less ventilation and heats up more. I saw a post somewhere on here discussing how nest boxes need ventilation as well in hot climes.
