Arizona Chickens

Good Morning Arizona, I spent the day yesterday cleaning up the storm stuff. I did a major inspect of my big kids pen top and bottom. 2 support poles that were just wedged into the dirt, came down. No damage from that. All of the string ties held. I have shade cloth, tied to the Camo Netting that covers the top. I used construction type yellow string.(Tough Stuff and holds a knot) That really works. I prepared it so that it could move. Yea it worked. My oldest DS has been in comerical construction. He said Mom, Peep Town came through the storm with no damage . You did a good job. That made me feel real good. Having built cables for the C-17 cargo plane for Boeing at Silverado Cable Co. I better know how to tie, and wire. I was also the final Inspector. Long history in Electronics.

The sun sure felt good yesterday, the wind was cold and blew all day. MY DS special lady made a big pot of Chili and baked a pan of Cornbread. Boy did that hit the spot. Interesting how many different ways there are for making Chili. A person could do a whole cook book on Chili alone. I make several different kinds myself.

Hope we all have a nice sunny Arizona day today.

Good morning all- our storm damage seems limited, since we were running around in the rain tying stuff down. I however, am a little beat up. I must have slipped or stepped wrong, because the bum knee is "warm" and a little sore. My back hurts too, but maybe from small childrens climbing into bed and giving me a beating.

I had 5 chicks hatch last night: 4 Austrolorps and 1 silkie. The silkie had a chance to be a blue, and it certainly looked gray-ish. I will have to post some pictures so all you experts can tell me what I have.

4 more eggs were pipped when I left for work, 3 of which are the silkies. Here's hoping they all make it!

My girls exhibited remarkably less resistance than usual, when asked to get into their coop / run combo before the storm. . . survived the storm just fine, thank goodness, and continue to lay. . . the yard however, is a big mess, one largish limb from a eucalyptus down in the side yard, but no damage to structures, so I am happy. I did let the girls out yesterday after the storm passed, and they seemed happy to have some freedom again, but laid in the coop instead of the outdoor boxes, for a change!

Darn. You (technically) can't give away animals on CL, and the posting said "free" instead of "teeny-weeny rehome fee". Maybe it got flagged, maybe they found a home.

It makes me sad when people get a pet and don't think about the amount of work involved with the responsibility of caring for it. Granted, there a ton of people out there who have the best intentions and something happens (sick grandparents/moving/loss of job) but it is the other flakers that make me nuts. NUTS I TELL YOU!

So, for those of us that cannot watch television in the morning. . . tell us about it, please! I just love it when chickens and urban chicken keeping get promoted on popular media!
