Larissa,

I really should bring you my GC Maran hen to put under your roo.

She lays HUGE eggs (every other day now) and has great coloring... do you think it would work?

She is in the foreground.

Mahroni-

Wow, she is pretty! They wouldn't have pure babies, but they'd be big babies!

I am not sure what I am going to do with the CM roos. They are lovely, but them growing up threw the flock into chaos. WHen Shanks started crowing, my two little game-y birds decided to become adults and join Shank's mini-flock. Then one of the birds, Frickin, became super-agressive, overthrew Shanks, and pulled out all of Shanks' tail feathers. To put this into perspective: Frickin is a OEGB/American Game cross and Shanks is a tank.

Then Fricken started forcing the hens, who would scream and try to throw him off. Frickin was really rough and would pull out neck feathers. Patch would come running and while he was chasing off Frickin, Lint (Frickin's bro) would hop on the poor hen! She'd scream, Patch would chase Lint off, and then need to re-establish dominance over the used & abused hen.

This would happen every half hour or so. My arm is sore from throwing shoes. (aimed to startle, not to hurt

)

The girls are so stressed out, they stopped laying. Runt just sits in the nesting box and looks confused.

SO: Shanks and Stumps are currently crated to drop them back down the pecking order. Frickin and Lint are no longer with us. Patch is back in charge and most of the girls are less stressed. The only exception are the CM pullets, who have not yet been courted by Patch.

Once I get the second coop built, all this is a non-issue. However, right now things stink and I feel guilty.

It wouldn't have been such a big deal, but it was quite literally overnight the boys all turned into roos. Nobody harasses my girls!

Runt has been wandering into the house, looking for non-lovin loving. She knows she's the favorite.

How is your hen doing today Angie? Hope she is still on the mend!

Reba is doing much better. So much so, that she had fun kicking the bedding out of her carrier yesterday, all over my kitchen floor.

I checked her last night and her belly is back to normal, and it feels like she is starting to get a little weight back. She is still getting oatmeal, yogurt and hardboiled eggs, in the morning; layer pellets at night; and vitamin/electrolyte water. I'm hoping to put her back with the flock Saturday night. I know she wants to be with them because I take her outside to dump her bedding, and she stares at the chickens in the pen, and she wants down.

Thanks for asking.
