We did not go skiing

It was a gorgeous day, too. Would have been a perfect skiing day.

But, it took me all day to get the temp to be still, so it was a good thing I stayed home. We may get another opportunity if it snows again this weekend.

And this morning we are waiting for the crew to come and pump the septic tank. Yes, lucky us, it backed up yesterday. Every toilet overflowed and every shower drain, too. We have three bathrooms. We had to turn off the water. It was plungers and shop vacs and towels, oh my!

In the mean time, I am still waiting for my fuzzy butts to arrive.

This is an ongoing thread, so there are always new posts, too. We zonies hang out together on this thread. There are some nutty folks on here, too. I won't mention any names, Laree already knows who she is.

If you have questions about desert chicken farming, just ask. We are here to serve. Lots of us are hatching babies right now, so the thread is moving fast.

Congrats on your egg layers! The first eggs are very eggciting!!

I did read once that citrus is bad for chickens. We don't give it to our girls.

Glad to have you with us!!

I love conventions!! Hope you are enjoying yourself! I always eat too much and drink way too much coffee. I gotta have one for each session! Area you still in AZ or somewhere cold?

I am responding to every post this morning. Sorry to dominate the thread. I have to do something to keep myself busy!! I am not a patient person and this waiting-for-eggs-to-hatch is killing me!!

Maybe I will go out and do yard work.

dofnup: Yes it is so hard to narrow down what breed to get. But the best thing to do is figure out what exactly you want them for.
Pets, Duel Purpose, or Layers and then go from there.

lauraintempe: congrats on your first eggs. That is so exciting!

gckiddhouse: I hope that you get everything turned out and it wasnt to much of a problem with clean up.

Tonopah Pati: Im glad your roo finally stepped up and made himself head roo. That's awesome!

Mahonri: have fun learning! My bro in law has to do that too. I think he will be here this month for that as well.

Glad to have you aboard!

Tonopah Pati:
Ok, I got a little confused. Is it the Sultun Roo that is now head roo or is there a different head roo that let the Sultan into the flock and told the rest to leave him alone? Either way, great story. Thank you for sharing it.

gckiddhouse: yuck on the mess. Hope the hatch goes well and that another skiing opportunity comes soon. I laughed at the "nut" comment.

All - Didn't we talk about citrus and aren't some of you giving the fruit part on occasion to your birds?

I find my citrus with holes pecked in it. I heard its bad so I take it away. They dont seem affected so Im not sure the reason that they cant have it.

I don't know about the citrus either. The neighbor's birds eat them on occasion.

It is like tomatoes. Mine have eaten them, and pulled & eaten whole plants out of my garden. I KNOW nightshades are poisonous, but

I wonder if it is a holdover from when people thought tomatoes were poisonous? The gentry used to die after eating tomatoes, but it was because they were eating off of pewter plates. The acid in the tomatoes reacted with the pewter, giving them lead poisoning. They finally figured it out when none of the lower classes seemed unaffected.

My problem is I want all-color layers + silkies. So I want white, brown, green, dark brown eggs. Blue would be great, but I'm not holding my breath.

Here is what I am considering/debating:

1 EE
1 BR/RIR
1 Leghorn/Australorp
1 Maran/Welsummer/Penedesenca
2 Silkies

That totals 6 chickens (and 9 breeds!) o_O No way can I put 6 chickens past my hubby

Wait, what color are Silkie eggs? White, right? Maybe I can forgo the white layers??

Then I start thinking ... what if I get roos? Gah!

P.S. - Yes, i tend to overthink and overcomplicate things
