I candled the Mille fleur Leghorns, all clear. Darn. With my incubator issues lately, I cant help but think it is my fault, but the extra eggs she sent (frizzle giant cochins) are humming along. Double darn.

So I was saying that I don't ever find anything on Craiglist up here...Well, last night a 4X8 coop was posted....it is made with pallets for the floor, covered with plywood, two ft tall chicken wire sides with a plywood roof....for free...called the number and I get to pick it up this afternoon...YEA!! It is going to make an excellent brooder,time out pen, baby area etc....my husband was so excited for me that he told me to come and get the truck and go get it right now...it is one less thing that he needs to hep build,LOL

lorre...sorry about the clear eggs...I got a batch of eggs recently and they are either clear or scrambled....so I do understand

I just called and they said the two little chicks are gone. They will be getting more chicks in on Friday.

This will be my first Arizona summer with chickens. I know that scratch can heat up their little bodies so it's not good to give them that anymore... what do you guys use as treats in the warmer months? I use deep litter, so I have been tossing the scratch into the shavings and they help mix it all up.

ETA: I've been reading in some other threads about Black Oil Sunflower Seeds and wildbird seed. Seems to me that the bird seed is still a grain and can still heat them up... I really just want to have them do the aerating work in the litter so I don't have to... this is strictly just so that I can continue to be lazy

She laid the first day, nothing on day two, and on day three the DH was running out of the coop with all the eggs in the crook of his arm. The 4 year old was bringing him the egg basket, the DH ran into him, and then the DH dropped half the eggs. The DS looks at the DH, grabbed the bottom of his shirt, and said, "Daddy, I was bringing you the basket for the eggs. You need to make a bucket with your shirt, like I do my Hotwheels. Don't drop anymore, ok?"

I have high hopes for today.

Craigslist is sooooooooo good/ or bad depending on who you ask.

I found and have already picked up something else that I found on craigslist...I got 7 mixed young turkeys---2 toms and 5 hens...I had given up on turkeys, but I am going to try again with the better incubator..they are laying eggs and are really pretty...shhhhhhhhh don't tell the DH, he doesn't know, I am sure that he knows that something is going on, I had to get his truck to go get them.
