Mahonri - The B-AM, Midnight (I finally named her), is now sitting on 4 Trader Joe's eggs. I don't need (or want) any more chicks, but she was so serious about her job of hatching the golf ball, I wanted to give her a chance. I bought 10 day old fertile eggs from TJ, gave her 4 and put the other 8 in my incubator (she's not large enough to stick the entire dozen under her). The plan is to candle the eggs at 4 days and give Midnight any eggs that are developing (I'm not counting on very many, since the eggs aren't real fresh). If none of them develop, I'll go back to the Stock Shop on Friday to pick up 3 little day olds ones for her to raise.
If she would have just gone broody 5 weeks ago she could have hatched her own offspring!
BTW - the chicks are growing fast - I think my favorite (the one who always runs for my hand) is a roo - it's one of the wheatons and it looks like he's getting dark splashes on his back. I'll send you a few pics once they feather out a little more. I think at least one of the chicks from Midnight's eggs will be a dark blue - if it's a pullet, I'll probably be keeping her.
