Ok so I've talked my husband into letting me buy some Wheaten/Blue Wheaten Ameraucanas eggs from Mahonri. Now I've decided I really like to looks of the Black Copper Marans. Does anyone in Az have any of these available for purchase to put in the incubator? Thanks

Hey Cheerful, if you have the room just get em! Why not right, a few more chickens won't hurt right? RIGHT?

Leghorns are pretty good layers but they are ugly I think. Go for the Cinna Queens or another heat bred chicken if you want eggs for sure. I don't remember which feed stores but some actually breed their own strands for the heat and sell them. From what I hear though EEs handle all types of weather well and only stop laying when it gets searing hot out. Depends on the bird but they eat their fair share. Anyone know the feed ratio of an RIR? I think the best time to get them in the near future. By the time you push them out of the brooder it will still be plenty warm and you should be able to access how many of the chickens have stopped laying in the high heats by then.

Mahroni has some nice chooks! I love seeing pictures of them haha. I always meant to ask, are they pure or EE?

1 CA W Leghorn, ( 2-3 eggs a week)
1 LB Leghorn (2-3 eggs a week)
1 Ancona (2-3 small white eggs a week)
1 BBL Polish ( I'm lucky to get one egg a week from her).. put she is real eye candy.

12 DUCK EGGS, preferably to set them on MONDAY 04/05/10.

The teacher wants to buy them-- so please put the word out, ok?

You are on my list this summer for the BR.

I'm trying to keep all of the Ameraucanas I can. I'll be doing another hatch in April so we'll see what comes out then...oh... and I'm certain to have LOTS of roos available again!

ETA: Just got e-mails from Peachick in Maryland Kathy LaDue and Wayne Meredith in Wisconsin. They are each sending me two dozen W/BW Am eggs on MONDAY!! Pasofinofarm in Houston, TX (Melissa), just now confirmed 18+. WAHOO!

So that means I'll have 66 + 8 eggs of my own + 2 BWA X BBL polish + whatever my girls lay between now and Wednesday/Thursday. I'll be stacking in the Hovabator, but there are always quitters and it worked last time I should have a bator full for "The Great W/Blue Wheaten Hatch of 2010"

I so wish that more than half would not be roos! I'm hoping that I can once again hatch about 40 out. Shipped eggs are always such an unknown!

I also e-mailed hoping for the hatching cube w/ turner for $90. We'll see if I get it.... holds 15 eggs.

I will tell more about the chicks I had hatch from Laree and Darwin......I had LOTS of the mixes hatch and about 8 of the others. I had fully formed chicks that never piped..I hate when that happens.They are really cute but I am having internet trouble it is not wanting to upload anything big...so the pictures are sitting on my computer...waiting to the internet to work like it should.....

Today was a big day here... the cow had the baby..I have been watching and watching for 2 1/2 weeks.....she had it today....that picture is waiting too it won't upload either, I think it is a boy. Momma cow isn't letting me close so when my DH comes home I an going to go grab that baby and find out what sex it is....

Here is yesterday's hatch. The little brown one is still kinda weak, but I am hoping he is still just sleepy.

ETA: One of those should be from my sizzle...one MIGHT have a little tophat, but I dunno. I guess we'll find out.

I found from my first two hatches that when the chick was fully formed and didn't hatch it was a humidity issue.

Once I started doing a dry hatch (25% to 35% humidity) days 1-18 and then not lower than 65% at lockdown I had a lot of success.

Can't wait to see the pics.
