Arizona Chickens

Britt--I am not sure. If our master bath was anywhere in the works, I'd say there. There's no $$ for more construction, so we may use it on the "bar" Shane is building witht he extra kitchen cabinets (where the big Snail wall-art thingy is)

OR--I may use it as a lighting fixture. It would be pretty easy to put a small bulb in it and set it up high---like on my kitchen cabinet of random. Next to the 24" cock and remote-control mammoth. I dunno. Either way, it rocks.

You can blow air into the "armpit" of the bird and while doing so look for anything crawling. Repeat in the vent area. The bumps could be from bug bites, other birds pecking, pox and I am sure there are other things to cause it as well. I am sorry I don't have more to offer on the bumps.

Everyone~ I hope you all are having a wonderful Mother's Day. I was awakened this morning to the sounds of "The Generous Mr. Lovewell" cd that hubby went at 6:30 this morning and bought for me. I am beyond thrilled. All I really wanted was to be with my family, talk to my mom, and listen to that cd.

So our neighbor to the north was over at the school playing with his boys and comes home with and extremely tame bird and wonders if we'll "save" it.

She looks like she has been broody. Black beak, Black Feet,.. green sheen.

The WBWG crowd says it's an Aussie... do you all concur?

I'll get her cleaned up and well fed and then sell her with my other birds. She's been around people because you can just walk up to her and pick her up.

ok so i need some rooster advice.

I have a few birds now and one of them is making some strange sounds that seems to be what might be the start of crowing. So that bird was supposedly sitting on eggs when it was given to me. It doesn't look like a rooster at all but It is stretching out its neck when making these sounds. Any advice on how to tell if its a roo or not??

Its a black silkie that is 8 months old. I would think by this point it would be painfully obvious it was a roo. Can a female bird act roo ish when there is no roo around ???

Just a bit bewildered by this one. I will see if i have picts of the bird.

(added pictures. Horrible pictures of this bird though. WIll try and get better ones soon so you can all take a look.

Laree - Love the penguin bowl. Glad you like it. Cool find for the family outing at garage sales.

Mohonri - looks like my BA's. Do her feathers have a green sheen in the sun? Mine all do. So far, mine have been very good mothers..so if you want a good broody, you might keep her for hatching some of your eggs.

All - loved hearing about your happy Mothers' days. Nice to get such happy reports.

Shaun - no idea.

Nessa - thank you. Also, I finally checked with my Pigeon raising friend. He only keeps the ones he can breed, so not a good option for your lonely bird.

The CL post was funny...and I wish I could get that for my hens. MY challenge, as always is man power. If I could get it in my Subaru Wagon and they would load it for me...maybe. I suspect I am out of luck on that one.

AZKat - glad your bird is doing better.

For mothers day we went to Schnepf Farms and had a little breakfast and then picked peaches. The boys had a ball playing there and had there fill of peaches in a one to eat one for the box kind of way. We spent some time in the petting farm and boy the rooster that is in with the chickens is real hard on them, or else something is wrong with them. Almost all of them had bare backs and some had feathers striped from their shoulders and wings, one RIR's whole back neck and rump was bare and bright red. It kinda bummed me out, are all roosters like that? Also does anyone know what breed the smaller brown goats that they have there are?
