Arizona Chickens

Okay this has nothing to do with chickens and everything to do with a very frustrated housewife. Trust me if you need a laugh you have found the right place. Check it out http://www.craigslist.org/about/best/dal/940682783.html

Wow this thread moves fast. I can't keep up.

Wish I had a yard big enough for an Emu to show up in.

I need to move out at least 5 more of my chickens... to make room for the blue egg layers. My wonderful BR leaves today.

I have:

Buff Orpington
Pearl White Leghorn
CA White Leghorn
Ancona
Black Star...lays almost daily
Cinnamon Queen
Delaware (Beautiful and she lays big dark eggs) All of these hatched around 3/20/2009... exception is the CA white... (2/21/09 hatch)

Won't have as many eggs for a while but my younger layers should start within the next month or so if I'm lucky.

Today marks two years on BYC.

What a ride....

116 and 251 am??? When do you guys sleep?!?!

Dar, PLEASE don't let me talk you out of any more chickens other than the BR while I'm there...

DH is off on Fridays and just sent me a text message telling me that if I want to keep those things, I better figure out how to keep them quiet!

We live in a neighborhood with an HOA and while the yard is a good size for the cookie cutter type neighborhood, the neighbors are still pretty close. This weekend I'm going to figure out how to get the trellis hung over the run so they have more shade, and it will also absorb some sound. I need that grape vine to grow FAST - that will help buffer some sound as well. Hopefully the dozen eggs I dropped off at the nearest neighnor will act as a buffer as well

Worse case scenario, I cut my flock size in half, getting rid of the young'ns and the less prolific layers. Coincidentally, the loudest hens are the slowest layers and the free-loaders so I won't be TOO broken hearted about it. Well, I will, but you know what I mean

I'm SOO glad it's Friday. It's been a long week, ya'll!!!

STOP IT!! I want an Italian chicken so bad!!

Background story on why I can't get one:

Bit of info #1: DH is 1/2 Italian.

Bit of info #2: I have too many hobbies and my husband rolls his eyes at them all. My 2 biggest ones are chickens and tomatoes. I have 23 tomato plants and he thinks it's WAY overkill. So, to try and soften him up, I specificatlly planted extra Italian varieties this year. Trying to make him think I got them JUST FOR HIM. But really, I wanted more tomatoes, and I thought that if I got Italian ones, he would just smile and tell me that's so awesome of me and he loves me so much.

NOT.

He still just rolls his eyes at me.

So it's becoming increasingly apparent to me that my logic is actually just delusion.

Oh well - I tried.

Mahonri- Congrats on 2 years! You can just hand that Dellie over Cluckin and She'll pass it on to me....

Cluckin- Yes, you are crazy. It is why we love you. Thanks for eating my Gbaby.

Baker's at lunch today?

AZKAT- Have you posted a pic of the new baby yet and I missed it? Even an ugly "I hate the outside world!" squishy-faced one?

AZDC- The DH says you are the hottest grandma, ever.

Congrats on your new title! Don't be too creeped out--you only get to be #1 until the DH's BFF produces offspring. Then my OTHER MIL gets to be #1. Until then, reign with wisdom and hotness.

GCKID- I hope you didn't party too hearty! Only a little hearty.

Lulu- Yay on new chickies!

RRR-How'd the interview go?

AZNessa- Hysterical. The co-workers are loving it.

Cheerful- Didnt want to leave you out! How are you today?

Random Thoughts:
-I despise election years. All that garbage lining the streets. I sighed a sigh of releif when they passed the law saying the canidates had to clean them up within 3 days. Then I became a chicken owner. Now all I see is shade screens, recycled roofs, sound dampeners, dividers for the brooder....

- Have 1 little OEGB from PamperedPoultry in the incubator. Hoping he'll spur the others into hatching. PP's eggs were SUPER fertile. They chugged right along, and I only tossed 1 at lockdown. 1!

- Need to put netting on the new run. Without a gynourmous yard to poop on, the chooks found there was only one way to go: up!

- I had sold eggies to a teacher for a school project. After they hatched, the teacher decided she didnt really WANT chickens, so I am picking them up today. I don't know what hatched, or how many, but I may have chicks if anyone needs more chickens.

They were all Aloha chicks, so maybe she just did the work for me! We'll see.
