Arizona Chickens

We had an extremely brief light drizzle this morning, nothing last night.

Last night I got almost NO irrigation--someone kept changing the gates so that several of us did not get our water. My plants and yard are NOT happy. THe chickens, however were thrilled.

AZKat the picture makes that side wall look longer than it actually is. I think a perch the same height would only add a couple more chickens
I'm thinking of a perch on that side wall lower than the first all the way to the back wall with a poop board under the first.
I'm just worried that they will sleep in the nestboxes if the roost is too low.

We just got some sprinkles this morning.

Sigh Im home now. I have no one to help me and my wife let the roos back into the coop after dark so they could eat and drink and chill. Do you think you might be interested in this roo? If so I will do what I can to try and keep him around till you get back on Saturday. Let me know.

I had pictures on flickr.com/smjacob from a while ago but none are new.

Irrigation and neighborhood cooperation can be tough.

This was more than neighborhood non-cooperation. We've lived here for 11.5 years without this kind of problem. I reset the gates correctly 3 times and someone changes them back, almost as soon as I set them correctly. I am thinking a kid playing pranks or ???. There were three of us who got no water, but the gate overflowed each time and finally SRP turned water off to the entire neighborhood, meaning 4 or 5 more homes got no water.

Utterly lame. Right now one of the gates in my neighbor hood is broken and we're coordinating the repair, but in the house we are trying to get the neighborhood pays some one to irrigate and to do the maintenance. It's going to caost more but I think it's totally going to be worth it.

Hi Shaun - your 3rd roo is not a Bue Wheaten Ameraucana - it is a cross between a Blue Wheaten Ameraucana (the daddy) and a Blue Ameraucana (the hen). I bet he's beautiful - he was mostly blue before - I've love to see a pic too. I have another of his direct siblings (same cross) and she's almost all blue - tiny bit of brown on the chest.

Congrat's on the egg. How many week old is the white crested blue polish.

She just turned 20 weeks! I really didn't expect anything for atleast another month but didn't truly expect any eggs until after it cooled down.
