Arizona Chickens

Congratulations on the new birds AZKat and gckiddhouse! I wish I had space to raise some meaties.

I'm hoping I have my tick problem under control. I sealed nearly every crevice in the coop yesterday and only found two last night.

Angie, so you've had ticks too? What did you use to dust with (I don't think I saw that in your other post).

I did have them a couple of years ago, none last year, but I found some this year. I use the Permectrin dust...works great. I also used it on my chickens for the lice they got this year. This is a bad year for pests. I found it at Vaquero Feeds, about $7.00 per can.

Permectrin™ Fly & Louse Dust is a ready-to-use permethrin insecticide dust designed to kill horn flies and lice on cattle and as an aid in reducing
face fly populations on beef and dairy cattle. It is also ideal for control of Northern Fowl Mites on poultry and for the control of lice on swine.
This convenient insecticide dust has no label restrictions on use with other treatments and medications, and aids in the control of horse
flies, stable flies, black flies and ticks.

Glad you have yours under control.

Angie

I have two broody Silkies now. Id like to give them eggs but the 1st broody refused to sit on the eggs in the crate. Now that I have two broody. One is sitting in their prefered egg laying nest and the other is sitting on top of the other hen. I'm considering marking eggs and putting marked eggs under so I can tell which are the given eggs and I can still pick up newly laid eggs. Does that sound unreasonable? I have 6 silkie hens and 1 roo in that pen.

Laree have you seen this?Aloha Project

Did she end up using any of your birds?

No Skiveez...dang I wish I'd seen your post earlier.

I have 9 DARK Marans, 7 W/BW ams and 2 Polish mixes.

Could you still come get them? (Or anyone else for that matter)

You'd have to call my cell. I'll PM you. It's my son's Eagle Project with Blood Donation today.

All laid within the last 3 days. I would love the mixes though in return if they hatch.

Many thanks to Bob of Bob's Henhouse... Drove all the way from Wittman to give blood!

Probably saved a few lives today.

At the end of the first hour, 15 donors, only one turned away for low iron. 3 came w/o actual appointments, 1 from BYC! and 2 from FB.

Just wanted to share a few pics. I never get around to shaing pics of the older birds. So here's a few

One of my Phoenix roos

The other roo - this one is getting a longer tail.

WCBlue - We actually had to put a divider between the WCB and Houdan because he was getting his crest picked out.

Mahonri, glad to do it. They had problems with the machine, r lines or something. Couldn't give me back the second round of plasma and saline, but it was an interesting experience nonetheless. Never heard of 'double red' before. I'm going to go through my memory cards now and see if I can find Joseph. I'll post a few of some of the others and maybe the coop.
Wish I could put some more eggs in the incubator, but I don't want too many different times going at once, gets too complicated. I do have a few brrody hens though.

NoSkiveez, that frizzel looks like our rooster, named Crash. We were trying to catch it one day cuz it thought it was the king of the roost and clawed both of my boys legs, and it ran right into the wall around the raised bed garden. LOL Hence, Crash.

Mahonri, I rechecked the eggs a little bit ago. The 2 white ones show nothing, I noticed one of the 3 light brown ones was cracked a couple of days ago, most all of the rest have veins etc. Can't really tell if they are all where they should be, but it looks good.
