Calling all Coops! I wanted to be sure everyone in the Phoenix area was aware of this years Tour de Coops 2010 sponsored by the Phoenix Permaculture Guild. Tour de Coops is currently looking for volunteers who are willing to open their yards up for the tour. This is your chance to show off your coop and your chickens to other like-minded poultry lovers or even to those who may simply be interested in getting started. The event takes place on December 4th, 2010.

What is Tour de Coops?
Phoenix Tour de Coops was organized by the Phoenix Permaculture Guild in response to the burgeoning interest in urban livestock and rapidly-increasing attendance in their backyard chicken-raising classes. Tour de Coops is a self-guided tour designed to give visitors insight into the experience of raising urban chickens, ducks, and quail, while inspiring them to start their own backyard coops.

Does anyone have a fig tree with ripe figs on it that I could buy? I have this unusual craving for a fig and goat cheese sandwich. Last time I was in Phoenix a friend said Trader Joes had figs, but I hit every trader joes in the east valley and didnt get any. On my way to Mahonri's I even saw a fig tree in someones back yard and was tempted to knock on the door and ask to buy some figs. lol

Took us an hour and 40 minutes to get through all 38 chickens. ... put in the worm meds, sprayed their legs, dusted, marked....
I ran out of dust for the last four so we marked them. I had dusted them last week so hopefully we were successful. We also really cleaned the roosts along with the coops this morning. Couldn't have done it without my 16 year old.

Next time I'm wearing gloves and wearing a mask. ... It's just how I operate I suppose.

Guess I'll discard the eggs for the next week.

Mahonri - Congrats on the new car! Honda makes awesome cars, so I bet it really will last forever! I have a Honda Civic with 200,000 miles on it and it just recently started having problems (radiator broke, and now it has a small oil leak).

I only change the oil every 15,000 miles so maybe that is why it is breaking?

I don't know if I should fix the oil leak, or just keep topping it off until I can afford a new (used) car. It has never had a new clutch or anything so it is bound to start have problems eventually.

And... Phoenix! I wish I knew someone going that way! Or, rather, coming this way!

Someday I'm going to have to drive south and see your set up...in the middle of the sonoran desert.

I think I'd love the room but I'd end up putting up a tall (at least 8 feet) cinder block fence around my entire property, with an impenetrable gate to come in and out of... to keep all of the desert predators at bay.

Thanks for your kind words over the chick pictures. I was not able to post it, my hubby came to my rescue, didn't know it was so complicated.

Does anyone know when chicks feather enough to put them out side? the little coop we have will hold them for a long time but didn't know how or when to get them in the yard. We will fence them off form the older ones. winter is coming here in AZ. just needed some advice.
Hope I got a stray rooster in the group, want to do it natural next time. my grand kids and their friend are going nuts over them. I let them hold them once a day.

Well, all the roos are crowing this morning so I guess they all survived the early evening veterinary session. )

They woke me up and the windows are closed. ... and I need at least a couple of hours more sleep.

I spent time on here last night bidding on some silkie eggs. The price has gone over $50 so it's too rich for my blood, but my, they are gorgeous, SQ birds. I would have gotten out the bator for those.

Suze, do you ever sell white, porcelain or buff eggs?
