Arizona Chickens

Hi everyone. I am out in San Tan Valley. My HOA has graciously allowed me to get some chickens.
I have heard Easter Egger chickens are quieter? I would like to find a quiet chickens that won't annoy my neighbors too badly. I live in a cookie cutter neighborhood.
But I also want them to be very friendly and lay eggs.

Would you reccomend that I buy eggs and hatch them at home or buy young chicks?

Thanks

Hello Hemolymph!

My EEs are about as loud as any of the other breeds I have. Well, the BA I have doesn't sing egg songs, so I guess she is quieter than the others. I don't know how representative any of my girls are of their breeds though. Do you like arthropods?

Bob's Henhouse :

Gallus, here is the page where they were talking about NPIP licensing, maybe someone on this page will have an idea?

Dr Noon was, once again, a no-show. This is the 4th time he has cancelled on us at the last minute. Lacy can test your birds for you, but I do not know what all is required to get official certification. Maybe just the paperwork he signs after the tests? If you attend THIS this weekend, you can ask the question.

Well....I think that it depends on the hen....not the breed of the hen. Some hens are loud and some are quieter. I say this is the case at my house...I have over 250 hens

Then I have roosters for the hens and ducks and quail and turkeys....I have a started a hatchery and love it

I have a Blue Wheaten hen that starts making a lot of noise the second she hears me come out the back door and she doesn't shut up until I feed them. Sometimes they are so noisy out back it sounds like a jungle.

Sorry I haven't posted in a bit..life has gotten a tad bit crazy over here. I just got a new job and my husband and I were both very sick for a little bit (we caught some flu). The chicks are getting huge! We are pretty sure one is a rooster so he is going to need to be rehomed ASAP. Where should I look to find him a home? Here are some pictures of the babies, back when we got them and now.

sorry about the quality of photos they are all from my phone.

If we do end up getting rid of the one we believe is a rooster I'll be in the lookout for another pullet since we really wanted 4-5 for our backyard. Anyone selling any around here or planning to within the next few months?

Hope you enjoy the pictures

Pastrymama, I'm glad Betty seems her old self again. Thanks for the compliment, but I pretty much just babysat her.

Lyongirl, where are you located? I've got tons of pullets and chicks, be happy to sell you one.

Hemolymph, if you feel like driving to Wittmann, I'll give you a couple of dozen. They are going to be mixed breeds though, nothing even close to purebreed, unless maybe a leghorn or cochin. There are others on here who are very generous with their eggs as well. I don't want them to feel obligated, so I won't specify, but I greatly appreciate their gifts.
