Arizona Chickens

Terrible pictures. They are from my phone. I will snap some pictures from a real camera in the am. This is the bird I think is so neat looking. It has a purple shimmer to its feathers. I figured rooster. This is the most colorful.

Quick Question. Tonight is day 19 for my test eggs in the incubator. I am using egg trays on the shelves. You can see one in the picture below. When you go into lockdown do I take them out of the trays for hatching or will they be able to get out of the shell with them still in the tray?

Hey Dewey,

Yep Congress is a cool place to live. We got tired of the polution/traffic in Phoenix, and moved out here about 2 years ago. It's really quiet. I think the average age is 62, or something like that. Most exciting news is the new feed store that opened a few months ago. The views are beautiful, people are layed back and I am loving it.

I don't know anything about the air drop rabies vaccine. When I pay my water bill, I will ask the ladies at the office. They know all the news/gossip. I have never seen a raccoon in this area (doesn't mean they aren't around). Lots of coyotes, pack rats, ground squirrels, quail, vultures, and hawks. Twice I have seen small foxes and there was a javelina (havalina sp??) in our driveway last winter. The coyotes used to come right up to the fence, but my dogs go crazy and they hang back about 15 feet now. You can hear them yipping and howling all night. They especially get loud when a train pass by. My run only has poultry netting and shade cloth accross the top, so my chickens are locked in the coup at night.

I so wish I could live out in the outskirts at a higher elevation like Congress.
Perhaps someday.
Or I'll have to come visit you and your chickens Bootsie!

You are welcome to visit any time!!

This rooster has crowed every couple of minutes for the past hour this morning. Not sure if that means he is happy or ticked off. At least my husband is still smiling.

When I hear my roosters crow, I know all is good.

Like this morning, I think all 11 roosters were crowing this morning, and some of the hens were doing their thing, too.

Larissa! Missed you bunches babe! Sorry about the job loss, but so happy you are out of that horrible place. We are great here. Picking up some blue laced reds this week & I'm soooo excited. They have been on my wish list for a while. Well I guess to be honest Vanessa is picking them up for me. She was a bit of an enabler, but that's okay. I do the same thing to her all the time. Lol... What are friends for, right?
