Thanks for getting the eggs Laree.

Bob, what are the symptoms of your birds with the mites? How many did you lose? How old were they?

If anyone's got any, I want 'em.

Mahonri, they were from the last 3 hatches. All were in the swingset together. So, from about 3 weeks to about 2 1/2 months old. They got to where they couldn't stand, walk, legs straight out, labored breathing. All totaled I probably lost 10 chicks. Some pretty suddenly. The ones that made it to sick bay got a shot of Tylosin and then after NoSkiveez told me, they got dusted with DE. After the dusting is when the improvement started. It took about 1 day and they were able to get up and around, and now look normal. I'm keeping them segregated for another week to dust them again. I put Sevin and DE down when I moved all the juvies to their new temporary housing unit.

Time to downsize? Chicks for sale, get'm while they're hot......

AYE CHIHUAHUA!!!! That's a lot of feed! How long does that last you?

Under normal circumstances, that would last a month and a half, almost 2. Depends on how much scratch i buy as well. I'm down to 3 or 4 bags, so need to make a scratch run. A customer is going to be giving me a half barrel of vegetable scraps a week, so that will help a lot too. Those little buggers eat a bag of lay feed and 1/2 to 3/4 bag of scratch a day if I don't have anything else for them. I'm trying to get weeds and grass to grow to help too. It's really difficult to grow enough to feed them.

You must have an awful lot of chickens! LOL! Have you thought about asking local grocery stores to let you take the old produce they don't use? I have heard of chicken owners doing that around here. I think the grocery stores like to do that as long as they can count on the person to pick it up regularly.

I keep thinking about it, just haven't yet. And, ummm, yeah, I guess I have a bunch of chickens. Kind of like McDonalds has sold a bunch of hamburgers.
