I like it, too.

That's the wire commonly used for rabbit cages when 14g isn't readily available. We use a steel grinder to cut it fast & smooth and then a roll bender for clean bends. It's not really coyote/dog proof but I'd sure rest easier with a coop wired with 16g if coyotes had access to it. I hope you can get it at the same price as the cloth!

I've got rabbit wire around the lower 4 feet of all coops. My youngster coop has a much thicker wire. I'm not sure what its called but this design is a /\\/\\/\\/ pattern and very thick (2x or more) thicker than rabbit. I have 1/2x1/2 in my elevated brooders. I still managed to get a snake in the top brooder Which is at face level. Np coyotes have gotten in tho. According to the electrician out here yesterday we have mountain lions here too. He said he had one at his place less than 1/4 mile away killing ducks. My coops would not hold up to a cat that size if it really wanted in. The side coop is fort knox tho. Nothings getting in tho.

Cougars there in the desert? WOW

I was amazed that there were coyotes here in the city, but I've seen them with my own eyes.

Mahonri, I'm glad to do it. Work is a little slow, so I am able to ride herd on everybody. I am seriously considering pouring a concrete floor in the coop by Monday or Tuesday though. I want it a little higher to stop the slop when it rains, and have it slope to the door so I can clean it easier.

NoSkiveez, can silkies handle being cooped up with larger breeds, or as I fear would they be squooshed?

AZKat, Jayne went into the AZ room with everyone else tonight without any coaxing! YEAH!

Tonopah Pati, the bantam cochin went back into the swingset with all the babies without coaxing too. The sultan and all the silkies try to roost on the patio and have to be rounded up to be put into the 'pool'.

Bob - I haven't had one get smooshed yet. I only had a Silkie in isolation with a Leghorn roo for 3 weeks and after they were intergrated into each pen they were with other birds their size. I have a tiny Frizzle with Silkies. She's full grown but about 1/3 of the size of a silkie and she does fine with them. Her eggs aren't much bigger than a jumbo quail egg.

Mahonri - I haven't seen one yet and hope I don't run into one. Chrystal has had bob cats out at her place. She's on the other side of town but given location I'm sure there are some here too. I once saw something that made me think there were cats bigger than bob cats out here but I wasn't certain. When I was a kid we used to camp at lakes in az a lot and we were all in the boat and my dad was launching it and we saw a mountain lion come down off the rocks and grab a boy and drag him away. My dad went to help and by the time they got there they had the lion off him. He was hurt very badly. I've always had a fear of them since. I don't have a fenced yard, and I won't let my kids play outside alone. Maybe I'm a bit paranoid but those mountain cats are huge (and scary)

Bob: Thank you so much for the updates. I'm glad that he's settling in and being a good boy for you.

AZKat, I'm really happy he did, I was starting to get worried. He still hasn't met the rest of the roos, but I have hope now that it'll be ok.

NoSkiveez, thanks for the info. I'll see how they do in the coop tomorrow or Sun,

Merry Christmas to all who subscribe, and Shabbat Sholom to my Jewish friends. May your layers be poppin' 'em out daily, may your eggs incubate well, may your meaties be heavy, and may your pests be non-existant. Thank you my new friends, for your experience---but mostly for your companionship and friendship. Special blessings to my new health challenged friends, whether or not you have shared your challenges.

Got my $5 can of mistake paint, gonna paint my coop as soon as it's dry. Say 10 O'Clock tomorrow!

well, santa was just here so i guess i can go to bed now but it seems i have mahonri's insomnia now. kids will be up before the roo which means very little sleep for me. at least i don't have to worry about my parents coming over early and fighting all day. they wait until late in the day to see their grandkids.
