Arizona Chickens

Who was the person who takes stuff to the poor people in Mexico? I have half a big garbage bag full of 2T toddler clothes... some have stains, but are still usable. Otherwise... anyone know someone that could use them? I'm in Tucson.

Laree, congrats on the egg! Love the spots.

My 4 year old son wants to name his new white cochin after all his favorite monster trucks(grave digger, maximum destruction, monster mutt, etc). So name is still TBD, but the 7 year old twin girls did much better, the other white cochin is cupcake(said she looks like frosting) and the twin wanted the buff brahma to be hannah montana, but mommy went and squashed that dream, so she is now princess buttercup.

so here's a question, these new girls are 11 months and are in a seperate pen together and i consistently get one egg a day. medium in size, very light tan in color and i am thinking it has to be the brahma. how often do cochins lay and what color are the eggs? the lady said they are standard cochins from privett and are molting a bit, i checked them for lice/mites before i bought them, nada. they are clean as well as the brahma. i got them altogether a week ago. the cochins go into their nest boxes and make huge nests and just sit for a while and hop out, nothing. what's up?

and does anyone else have evil delawares? i have 3 that are barely 6 months, all laying. one of them is pecking all the paint of my house!!!!!!! and if you bend down, they will come up and peck you right in the eye.

I have a delaware-mix that is our friendliest chicken. Could they just be "in a mood"? All my pullets seem evil until they lay an egg. Then they calm down and get more lovey.

My Del pullets (10 weeks) come running and pick on everything: shoelaces, hands, fingers, hair... I have not considered this hostile so far. I just thought they are NOT SHY (compared to my Minorcas) and inquisitive

Totally. My deli-mutt, Runt, has jumped on my lap and stolen a bite of sandwich from my 1-yr-old's mouth.

Not agressive, really. Just... extremely not intimidated by us.

TT! :

I think that was 5pinkarrows. That is very nice of you.

That is so cool and I think it may answer the question a friend and I had. She is thinking that one of her hens has been looking to nest and it seems to me that my Tom and hen have been getting closer (although I have not seen the act yet

) Congrats.

Hey there everyone. I haven't been around much. Between getting set to start school and a stupid head cold or bug of some kind that I have been fighting for a week now, I have been just crazy and misserable enough to scream. Of course it is not enough for me to call in sick to work tomorrow though.

OK, enough of me whining

I have learned that I need to mark my eggs from now on if I am going to stagger them though. I had pulled the other eggs and put them into the hatcher Sunday. I had one hatch yesterday afternoon and could hear another one, but could no see the pip from the window. I checked again this morning and same thing. About an hour ago, I went to check and still a very strong peeping, but no sign of an egg hatching. Then I hear movement on metal. Wait a minute, thats not right. No, it can't be. I look into the other incubator on top of the hatcher. I apparently mixed up one of the eggs and the little tuffy had hatched right out in there with about 26 ish humidity. I went ahead and pulled it out as it was dry and fluffly and then pulled the other chick. I did not really want to open the hatcher yet, but the little one in there was seeming a bit lethargic (not just the tired resting). Tuffy has gotten it livened up well and both are eating and drinking already.
