Arizona Chickens

Lyongirl - Looks like the green egg came from one of the brown americana girls. The other egg looks like it came from the Phoenix. The Phoenix have been my best layers (aside from Wyandottes)

Bob,

I am afraid my little speckled sussex isn't doing very well at all. She cannot stand at all, she convulses during the day, I have to hand feed and water her, I am giving her polyvisol. I am amazed that she is still here. Her feet are purple when they should be pink, her comb is falling over, she sleeps most of the day on her side and really can't move from that position. If I try to move her, she absolutely flips lke she has vertigo or something. I am wondering if she had a stroke. She is 5 1/2 months old. So far, everyone else seems ok.

No lice or mites, no respiratory symptoms at all. I just don't get it.

Bob: I'm seriously interested in doing it. I can come any day during the week. I plucked the chickens, it wasn't very hard to do, the only trick was making sure that the water stayed hot. And it helped to have a little propane torch for burning off the pin feathers. I think that there is a lot of flavor in the fat and the skin that gets lost if you skin the chickens.

Geesh,,, I think I have a jersey giant trying to go broody on me with no eggs. She was in the box earlier when I came home and would not let me check it, so I figured she was laying. I just went out and locked up for the night. She is still in the box and I blocked her attacks with one hand while I checked with the other. Could not find a single egg under her. Should I be worried, do you think? Man, that was some pretty determined pecking though. Ouch!

Does anyone have fertile Buff Orp eggs? 21 Chooks in the Brooder 2 more to go!! Lost 1 after PIP. so pretty good hatch.Only 3 Black Babies & the rest Blue & Splash.

I'm very sorry pastrymama. I dread anything happining to our little chooks, and we've only had them for 26 days.

i just feel so bad for my kids. this will be our third loss since august and we have only had chickens since april! granted, the first two losses were due to my beloved beagle who loves a chicken meal(i am much more careful and consistent about wing clipping now) so this one is new to us. i tried to feed her again and it seems that she has either forgotten how or is too weak. my fireman will be home in the morning to acess the situation after the kids have gone to school. i have already prepared them that little Spice will not make it. oh, how they freaked out! i just can't watch the torture anymore.

That's what we were guessing. We had a large brown egg tonight..was that from the white girl?

5pinkarrows- We are actually about an hour from Phoenix so I'm not sure if we are still considered in the Phoenix area. We are South East of that area so it's a bit more rural than the rest of the city. The problem is a lot of people who live near me have to drive at least 40 minutes to work everyday because there isn't a whole lot out here where they could work. I would love to open up a dog grooming place just because there's only one that I know of and they are sketchy. *sigh* If only we had unlimited amounts of money to spend..

. You never know, maybe a miracle will happen and she will perk up by tomorrow. Speckled Sussexes are so pretty too..I can see why she was one of your favorites.
