Arizona Chickens

I use half a paper towel per egg. Then in egg crates (large eggs like yours should probably spaced apart so they can't touch eachother) then I fill any empty spaces with paper towels then wrap the carton in bubble wrap . I run newspaper thru the shredder and pack the bottom of tge box with newspaper, put eggs in, and pack it tightly with shredded newspaper so the eggs can not move. If there is any movement, I will add clean pine shavings (and tell them so it doesn't make a huge mess)

I've already slammed a few of you on FB. I thought I would mention it here too. I started a Facebook Fan page and once I get to 100 likers, I will be giving away a dozen free hatching eggs with free shipping as well. I don't have a URL yet, I need 5 more fans before I get a url. You would have to search for my page with the search bar NOSKIVEEZ POULTRY

Please feel free to share with your friends too. The "Share" function on the bottom of the page works. I would be very appreciative. I'm still working on the website. Yesterday I wanted to pull my hair out over it and i email support to find out they had not enabled the web disk portion of my website...so I really wasnt misunderstanding how to do it. I'm going to have some coffee first before I try again. My son made a great pot of decaf this morning.

I've cut back on chickens big time. Over the summer I had about 150. Now I have about 30 adults and about 50 youngsters. With the youngsters, I will only be keeping the best of the best. There are 120 adult quail. 50 in the grow off pens and 50 in the brooder. I also have two buckets with 1 week olds and 2 week olds and 3 trays hatching today. The quail are proccessed 4-6 weeks after hatch depending on what size they are. I really like chickens much better than quail.

NoSkiveez Your eggs go to hatcher tomorrow I will let You know how many growers, I hope I hatch You a Roo!!

How are the JG's doing?

Gallo, no, I haven't seen TS that are red and green. I'm really no expert. I'm sure you know more about them than I do. I think I've had a variety like that in the past but it would have been probably 20 years ago. Flame grapes will sometimes have red and green both, more red at the top of the grape turning to green I think. I did take cuttings from mine this year, but I may have been too late, they were just starting to bud and leaf out. The prices they want just seems a bit outrageous for some of these plants. I didn't expect it to get this hot for another few weeks, so I'm not sure how they will do.

Thanks for your thoughts BH. I really don't know what they are. We do have a Flame seedless and the first two are definitely not that. The funny thing about this story is that right when the first season of grapes ripened were were so dissappointed that they weren't green. But we discovered that they make the most amazing raisins and we wouldn't give them up for anything! We froze a lot of grapes last year and also made about 2 gallons of raisins. This year we'll put all of them up as raisins (at least the ones we don't eat fresh). I also took cuttings and rooted them this year. Not one of the 4 I potted has sprouts yet, but the one I did last year was about 3 weeks behind the ones in the ground so I'm not giving up on them. You're right about the price. My flame seedless from the local nursery was $40. The good thing is that you could easily make your money back with selling the potted cuttings. BTW, I only have three years of grape experience; much less than you.

What standards are you using to decide what to keep? Best example of breed standard or great layers? And are you still processing the quail for that wildlife place? I think my hubby would get on board with something like that, but I have nobody to buy them down here. Would you have to get certified to process them for human consumption? Sorry for the inquisition.

Day off today. Waiting for airwolf to call me so I can be here for him/her to pick up the eggs he won on auction.

I'm going to be moving chickens around as I'm rehoming some of my adults tomorrow.

Anybody want a cross beaked olive egger roo? he's free.

AZDC.... so sorry about that dang coyote. I've seen coyotes here in my central Phx neighborhood. unreal.
