Arizona Chickens

Hi,
Well, do you all remember those Delaware chicks I got in October. I got 20 hens expecting to get a roo because no one know for sure...right? WELL I did not get even 1 roo and I need one. S0000 Does any one have a Delaware roo you want to get rid of....willing to buy of course. I am in Queen Creek.

I have also thought about keeping bees. The last three springs, however, I have had budding colonies set up (with honeycomb) in or very near my yard. The first year, I paid $300 to watch someone spray them with soap, then rake up the bodies, scrape away the honeycomb, and dust the area with insecticide. The last two years I dealt with it myself, ultimately using the same protocol minus the insecticide. I am not convinced that I can keep a colony that will not be overtaken by an africanized queen. Is it possible to keep this from happening?

I was quoted 400. I went and bought 4 cans of spray foam and filled the bee tree with foam. I got tired of being chased around by jerk bees. They found a new way out and I found the hole and filled it with boric acidthen foamed them in. Haven't seen them again...but give it time. They will return. They always do. We once had a hive in the cellar, we could hear the rumble thru the floor. At first I thought I was hearing electrical currents but it was bees.

Well if anyone does find a swarm please let me know,I should have my protective gear this wk:fl
I do only want to do a few hives or one.I did have a few hives with a nieghbor when I was younger even one on our roof, was fun and enjoyable

I might know somebody with a swarm easy to get to. I'll let you know if she still has it.

I've sold the quail. He is picking them up Wednesday. I'm glad they are going. Its just too much right now with everything that's going on.
Now I will have adequate space for the chicks. I won't ever have to have a chick in the house AND I can use the quail cages to grow them off to nice size before putting them out.

Congrats NoSkiveez! We just wanted to let you know, we think there are atleast 3 cuckoo roos for you to choose from! Will wait another week or two to be sure. They are starting to feather out right now. Very healthy and vibrent chickees!

Home from Church... I've got to go out and gather... I only got three eggs yesterday, an Am, and EE and a marans.

My marans eggs are starting to get lighter... I haven't given them as much grass as they usually get... maybe that's it.

I'm getting excited for the Easter Hatch! I'll have:

12 W/BW Ams from pasofinofarm (Melissa)
30+ Icelandics from The Warden (Mary)
18 Icelandics from KathyinMo
8 Icelandics from NotAFarm (the other Mary)

and then whatever I can stick in from my coop. I'm only putting in the largest and bluest of eggs, so it may not be many.

I'm hoping that with these shipped eggs that I get at least 6 Ams and at least 20 Icelandics and that 10 will be pullets.

I have a really cool roo... this pic was taken a while ago, he's even more gorgeous now.

His name is Vindur (Wind in Icelandic)
