I am so, so sorry! That must be devasting!!! I agree with Becky - your coop looks secure, at least secure against larger predators. Are you sure it was a bobcat? I've heard of racoons pulling chickens through fences, but not bobcats.

Thank-you everyone! I really appreciate your sympathies. *sniff sniff*

I'm pretty sure it was a bobcat, but one of the chicks that wasn't eaten had it's neck just ripped open, not kitty cat could do that. All my neighbors tell me of many bobcat sightings in the neighborhood. Many dogs have been snatched from back yards, even with high walled fences. Another neighbor with chickens says the bobcats have snatched the chickens and pulled them through the fence. But we innocently thought since our run is in our back yard, with high fence, and the chicks were in a separate fenced-in area inside the run that they would be safe. Now of course we are paranoid and we are putting up chicken wire fencing tomorrow all around the dog run fence. My DH wants to set a trap for the cat, put a weight around its neck and use it for target practice..

He feels guilty.

After cleaning everything up I went out and got more chicks. These are 2-week old Blue Andalusions. I doubled on the number of chicks....ok, I know, I'm trying to compensate for my loss. But I really like my chickens!

hi everyone I am fairly new to the AZ area ... was living in NM for awhile

I was wondering what area's allow chickens ? I am sure the answer is somewhere in the 1150 post in this thread lol

I am living in the Glendale area and I was told I am in a no chicken zone but I can hear a rooster some mornings when i am out watering the flowers ,, it is driving me nuts since i want to get back into raising my birds again

can someone point me in the right direction please.

Look at the spread on that baby. If that doesn't look like a meat bird, what does?

Here's the fuzzy butts. Some of the late hatches are still in the bator and missed out on their first photo shoot.

nurseronda--I am soooo sorry! That is horrible! Were they chicks or adults? That must have been a terrible feeling. I would have cried half the day.

arizonadreamer--Your chicklets are soooooo cute!!!! Congrats on a successful first hatch! I hope my first goes as well.

Crazy4Chicks--WELCOME!!! I don't know about your area, but I vote for getting hens and waiting to see if anyone complains.

I have enjoyed reading all your posts about hatching eggs. Do you sell the chicks you don't want to keep? I would be dangerous with an incubator. Some threads read like lab reports when projects are going on. I am learning about things I never knew existed. All my chicks are doing great but I have way too many and plan to sell some to our local friends and people we work with. I feel that the longer I keep them the easier they will be to find homes for and I have the room to grow them out. My friends work and don't have time nor want to go through the chick stage. I hope by the time they are big enough and I can figure out rooster or hen I will know my breed preferences. I have a good variety to study. So far my favorite is a little scruffy runt silkie. He is in the brooder with the new chicks that are maybe a week old and blends right in with them. The other silkie I have is growing normally and towers over him, Runt is going to be serama sized. LOL I really needed to have this "chicken thing" come into my life, it has helped me stay focused on something. Thanks for helping me learn.
