Do you get those local, or order from that website. The shipping seemed pretty steep, but then again I've never ordered bugs on purpose...so that may be normal.

Crazy thing is, that company is local. I think it's up in Catalina, but I don't think they have a store-front. I'll do one application this year on each of the three grape vines. Three packs of 1000 eggs= $41.25, FedEx ground=$7.51. Last year I mostly wiped them out with two applications. We have a lot of native flowering plants that the adult lacewings need to feed and there seem to be a lot more in the yard. I'm hoping that after this year the leaf hoppers will be wiped out.

I have super grumpy tantrum crab boy! Had to stop on the way home from school and sit on a rock in a parking lot while he screamed and cried because he got in trouble and I told him no playdate today. I won't drive when he is like that, so not worth it! Someday he'll learn that bad behavior = fun things get taken away ... good behavior = lots of good things. Now he is still sure that after he gets in trouble, if he's really good, maybe he can get his privilege back, and then when he finds out that isn't happening he goes into tantrum mode. I guess he tries really hard ... still doesn't work though! Maybe by the time he's 10 he'll get that concept.

Anyone want to come by and take over sweatybabybucket duties?
You know you want to....

I will trade you all (1) feverish, uber-emotional, cranky, hot & sweaty 10 yr old girl AND I'll raise you (1) Asperger-ish hyper-active silly 5 yr old girl that is overly pet-affectionate AND just for good measure I'll throw in their stinky, sweaty, always-gotta-be-right 11 yr old brother.

Who wants 'em??? Come on...please

HAHA - kids you gotta love em:D

Ummm 5 pinkarrows, might need Bessie the buff brahma to get a home quicker. From the way he and Elvis are acting today I would say Bessie is a Bert. And trying to do all of the hens. He don't get no respect tho. Standard hens just shake him off. He won't go near the Serama pen. Elvis will go to the standard pen tho and they have face offs. Now I know why Elvis has been crowing a lot today.

Oh, that's not that bad. I put 1 pack of 1000 lacewings and 1 pack of 500 ladybugs (just because "why not?") in the cart, and the total was $20 something for the product, and $20 something for the shipping. That seemed crazy, but it must have been the ladybugs. Maybe they need special handling. I guess that answers the "why not". Thanks for the info.

Also, thanks to all of you bad influences...as of today I am the proud new owner of a mealworm colony.

I'll take your know-it-all, and raise you a 5-year-old who can do multiplication in one breath and throw a "his Otterpop is bigger than my Otterpop"-induced tempertantrum in another.
