Time to get rid of some roosters. Anyone want roosters for processing, or just to have around for the constant noise and harassing of the hens? I have probably 15 to 20 that I need to get rid of. pm me if you are interested.
re: cooling, I use a 3500 cfm evap cooler in the coop, that also cools a little bit outside in the run and the front door, then I have drip irrigation line about 6' high that runs around the run, both coops, and around the raised bed gardens and the patio. I don't run the garden and patio all the time due to the minerals coating everything. I bought the low pressure, adjustable flow misters for drip systems at Lowes, they are about $3 for 5 emitters that you can punch into the drip line wherever you want one. We don't have great water pressure here, so I don't worry about too much pressure in the line, but you can just adjust it with the faucet if need be. So, with all that, and 9 or 10 water dishes, mud, and wading pools, only the chickens that are too silly to come in out of the heat have problems. I think I've lost one or two to heat so far, which, all things considered isn't bad.
I'm sorry to hear about the losses out there. you know, you can lead a chicken to water, but you just can't make it do calculus.
