LOL, pediatrics is great ... but I don't do Oncology in Peds, when I was a new grad I thought I did, and there were no positions open. Then 5 kids that all got diagnosed when I started all passed away and I was really glad I did something different. In my area pretty much everyone gets better and goes home feeling better. I've done peds for almost 20 years. The worst was a button battery ingestion ... all I can say is if you think your child has swallowed a battery, they need to go to the ER ASAP, and NOT be released until they are sure there isn't any continuing damage. It keeps damaging the tissue for a long time, and bad things can happen from the places it damages. There is a lot of important stuff in your neck. Think hospitalization for months ... not oh we got it out you can go home. Dr. Notrica has done some tv appearances about it, with more details with the families permission. I also did preop, postop and circulating on the side and that was really fun. It was for a plastic surgeon, and it was a nice change, because there, the patients are happy to see you. They are like, here put my IV in, then I would give them their valium and the little old ladies were so funny because they would gush about how cute the doctor was - it was always the ones about 40 years older than the doc, and I was always so happy they would not remember anything after! About 10 mg of Valium and you will tell all of your most guarded secrets and then pass out - LOL!
