Hi All, Barging in to ask a question
yippiechickie.gif

I have a SQ JG Trio coming from back east. The are ready to ship anytime, however, waiting on the weather back there to cool down a bit.

Have any of you had birds shipped out here during the Arizona summer heat?

Would love to hear your thoughts.

Thanks!

I think the post office won't ship chickens unless it is less than 85 degrees at both locations / sending and receiving. I could be wrong though, I've never tried it, but that is what I've read in other posts about shipping.

I'd wait. It'd take just one careless person or broken A/C, or extra long coffee break to end up with chicken extra crispy.

Thank you both. I let her know average temps here for the next couple of months. I'd rather wait than get in hurry to have them out here.

but then Mahonri flashed his pretty eggs at me and well, you know.....
he asked me the other day how many were out there and i just said, "if you want to go outside and count them, go ahead!"

Well, if DH asked I'd say "Four laying hens and some pullets". If he persisted I'd say "Wheaton Americaunas, Speckled Sussex and Silkies". If he was doggedly determined for better info I'd say "One of the Silkies is actually a Sizzle, the ones with the curly feather gene and the fluffy feathery gene? You know the difference? Its really cool because when you cross a Frizzle with a Silkie and maybe throw a little extra Polish in..." at this point he might be expected to slip into a coma. Should his blood sugar level remain sufficient to maintain consciousness, I might tell him "I have 8. But some are for sale". I WOULD, however, refrain from mentioning that the only ones for sale are the ones that spontaneously change sex.

Today I got up to find something worthy of sharing. I know its close to lunch time, so I'll post a link instead of an image. Don't wanna destroy anyones lunch. Egg bound hen that's been laying 8 or 9 months. Egg was partially out and stuck. She has some blackening of the area around the vent. She was in the shed. We thought she was sitting on eggs. When I checked on her this morning she was on her side. I managed to get this egg out and it dropped on the ground and 2 more fully formed, hard shelled eggs fell right out afterwards. Time will tell if she'll be ok. She felt much better immediately.
