Arizona Chickens

Bah!, I was looking at some of the dates and it seemed strange. Then I went to their web site and realized that they are in Phoenix. I'll have to keep that in mind when deciding on the dates. It should still be helpful though.

Thankfully the little snot is locked in coop or run at all times. He is my first Roo so wasn't sure if that behaviour was normal.... I guess it isn't so big boots and gloves will be used for a little 'training' tomorrow

Thanks for the advice

Thanks, yeah I read quite a few things and you are right, sooo many different opinions, I figured 3 months was a little young to be attacking me too!

Haha, a kick to the chest... glad it sorted him out! I did push my roo back with my hand but it just got him even more riled up and he charged, I was suprised at the force. I am going to give him a few months to change his attitude otherwise he will be dinner

You gonna let him beat you up for months???? Show him who's boss now or he may also attack an innocent bystander. Or a child.

LOL! I guess every farmer needs a pair of "attitude adjustment" boots.

Hey Mikey D, the planting chart might work fine for you. I'll still consult it because it's nearly right for me here in Tucson and the pattern is essentially the same. I think you have to mostly consider your first and last frost dates and factor that into your planting schedule. For example, in Phoenix, the first and last frost dates are (about) Feb. 5 and Dec. 15, respectively. The first and last frost dates in Tucson are Feb. 28 and Nov. 29 (http://allaboutsquarefootgardening.com/?page_id=8). Of course these are averages. A lot of this depends on your elevation.

I think you could just move everything back a littl. Check your first frost date and last frost date against Phoenix and then just move everything over by that many weeks.
Sorry about that. U of A also has calendars, I just like this one better.

Here's the calendar I check about once very week or two. It really helps me out with garden planning. Whenever I don't follow it, my stuff doesn't grow.

Cool chart. Is this generic or for out neck of the woods?

Oh and how did the butchering go?

Still a couple left. Will get to them tomorrow or Sunday AM. Would have done them this AM but it was so nice I ended up hauling a huge load of manure for my gardens.
We need to get together soon and talk about our order. Ideal is sold out on a lot of chicks, although I noticed they don't have any fall hatching availability listed yet. Maybe we should call and see what they'll have late Sept, early Oct?
I think I'll get two NNs and two sex-linked red or gold Pullets. Some red broilers and the Cornish X. I'd like about 15 broilers.
