Arizona Chickens

I looked into welp before, their chick prices include shipping. You don't add it at the end like everyone else, but you may have to order a minimum number per breed, can't remember.
Let me stress to you that the salmon faverolles do not ship well. Order more than you actually want to keep and keep in mind that you may lose a few in chickhood. Speaking from experience. Seriously, not for the first time chicken keeper. Imho.it is still going to be hot in september to ship, choose your breeds with that in mind. Sex links, ees, leghorns, minorcas, andalusians, anconas.....laree what else?

I have minorcas and anconas from Welp. Great layers. The minorcas are definitely not SQ but great birds to have.

Did you ever consider Welp Hatchery? I bought from them last November. Very healthy chicks, all alive, I am very happy (except of course the are not SQ but that is probably not your expectation).

just FYI, welp gets their chicks from privett except for their meat chickies.
one of the feed stores that i used to frequent in the beginning gets all their chicks from privett. i still have one hen, an EE, left from my very first batch(sold off everyone else). she is the best layer and never so much as a sniffle! but she likes to try to escape

I believe Privett is the closest hatchery to Arizona; it is in New Mexico.

I think you are right about the temperatures. I just checked averages, Mikey, would you be ok with later in Sept? It's supposed to be over 100 up until mid- Sept. I'd hate to lose the whole order at the post office. Welp only ships Cornish X in batches of 25 because they are shipped separately from somewhere else, otherwise, they would be great. Unfortunately, I'm ordering Cornish X and 25 is a few too many for me right now.
Privett would be great but they don't have Cornish X. I'd love to try the slow broilers or red broilers but I'm a little afraid to have 12-15 roosters of that size crowing until they're 12 weeks old. Might not make the neighbors happy. That experiment will need to wait until I move to the country. I'd like to try 2-3 slow red broilers, at least if they're making too much noise but are too small to butcher, well, I don't have to butcher the whole batch of meat chickens too early, since the X's grow so fast. I don't mind butchering a couple of birds prematurely but would hat having to butcher the whole group because they were a nuisance.

I also figure that for the small quantities we will be getting the price difference is probably minimal - especially divided 2 or 3 ways.

It's kinda like driving a few miles to save a nickle on 8 gallons of gasoline.

My only qualifier is that you be satisfied with the place.

Oops - saw this email after the first one. I will of course defer to your experience - but I WANT CHICKENS!!!!

I'd like a few cornish x's as well but am still in negotiations with the control tower for that flight plan.

Pastrymamma - yer scaring me! - I sure like those Salmon Fav's

Sorry Mikey. The salmons are just a fragile breed. I ordered 8 at the end of feb, 2 died within 24 hours, I gave 3 to a friend and kept 3. One more died on me at 6 weeks when we hit a cold snap and she went into shock, poor thing. I sold one to Dof nup on here, so I have one left. My friend that took 3 just lost one to heat a few weeks ago. Just fragile. Why don't you come and take a look at her and decide if you really want them? I like these orloffs much better personally. And brahmas!
