Arizona Chickens

Everyone,
I joined BYC about a week ago and was really excited when I found this thread! I've glanced through most of it, and loved it!

Everyone seems wonderful and I'm looking forward to getting to know you all better!

I'm in Tucson, near A Mountain.
We currently have 2 Serama's, and I've already made a wish list of other chickens for the near future. We had a few chickens a few years ago, and I've missed them! So I was so excited to get more! Right now they are caged in the house, and I love hearing the little Roo crow! I hope we'll be O.K. and I can keep him! Also have a hen. They are about 3 1/2 months old.

Along with the two chickens, we have 3 small dogs, a cat, 3 parakeets, a orphan bird, not sure what he is and 2 leopard gecko's, and would love to add a tortoise or 2 to the family! I keep hubby guessing as to what I will bring home next.

And my 14 yr old son enjoys it all too!

We could use some suggestions on how to tame our Serama's. They are pretty skittish, and I get the feeling were not handled much when little. I will be keeping them inside for awhile, till coup and such is ready. But would like to be able to take them outside from time to time to run around and play in the yard while I work. I would like to be able to catch them when time to come in without a lot of chasing. lol!

I've also read the thread to raise meal worms, and already have some of them going for everyone! Was already on the project for the gecko's but then the baby bird started to eat all the worms, so I need to step up the production line!

I hope you all have a great night!
I'll be looking forward to more reading in this thread.

welcome- me and nurseshelly have seramas. To tame them you just have to handle them alot, pretty soon they will give up the fight and love the attention. Where did you get your seramas from?

Clicker? I just have to open the back door!

As soon as they hear the sliding of the back door they stop whatever they were doing to run to the spot where food is given. I swear, they can be mid-egg and will jump out of a nest box when they hear the door...just so they don't potentially miss out on anything. Because there couldn't possibly be any other reason that I would have to be going outside except to be bringing food, right?

Welcome, Critter.

TT! :

Does anyone want 2 broody silkies? I'm giving up on them! They are 2+ years old (we got them used, the previous owner said they were a year old). When they aren't broody they are pretty good layers. Except, they are always broody. They are white, one is bearded, one is not, and they are extra ratty after being broody for the last 3 months. I've tried everything. They won't stop. Will someone please take them and put some eggs under them? Or give them chicks? Or just eat them to put them out of their brooding misery?

Anyone want some used ratty chickens?

I've gotten two first laid brahma eggs in the last two days. Don't know which of the three laid them. (one light, two buff)

Wahoo!

....of course if I incubated them they'd be lovely EEs.
