Arizona Chickens

Can they grow up with big chicks if the big chicks are 2 weeks behind them?
I don't suppose you know their gender?
My daughter has always wanted a little chicken.

I think they would be fine growing up with the other chicks. I've put new babies in with one month old (or older) babies without a problem. They are in with Phyllis (serama) right now, she's 2 months old, and she has been the "mommy" in the brooder to all of the younger chicks. Even when she was only a few weeks old, she would gather up the new babies and put her wings over them to protect them. I imagine she will be the queen of broody when she's old enough to have her own chicks.
These two hatched right when I sold the last two little Serama babies, and she was so happy to have them!

I talked to my daughter and we are going to pass this time.

We have a concern about our dogs. They are fine with the full size chickens but they kill doves and sparrows every time they get the chance (which is usually when they are trapped in the coop).
I looked up silkies and saw that they only get to be about 2 lbs. I'm afraid my dogs will be too tempted and we are still mourning the loss of our first 4 chickens. We don't want to take the risk.
I'm sure you'll find them a good home. They are adorable!

Is there anyone who shops at Pet Club? I just got a $10 off $45 coupon in the mail that I won't use. Expires 9/30/11. I can zip it off in the mail to whomever would like it first.

Hello Pastrymama,

Your girls are fine and are now well established in the main flock.... ummm.... except for Ruby who has defected to the other flock of younger girls (18 to 20 weeks) where no one picks on her and she can fluff about in peace

One of the Dels gave up an egg today as well...

They will be fine here....

Mikayla said I should update so you could tell the kids

Speaking of A.H. meter. now 22 month old was in our large pantry and found the BIG Fry daddy and thought it would be fun to pull off the shelves. I had about 4 quarts of used oil all over the floor. Now my house smells like old french fries and the floor is still slick. I think I am going to have to mop about 10 times before I make a dent in the greasiness of it! She is luck she didn't hurt herselve, but I am about to put her up for adoption!!

Oh, that's a bad un. For me it was a full quart of olive oil spilled by pantry monkey DD1. I was so mad and tired of stunts by that time of day I put her to bed.

I saw that! How exciting. I just had a friend drop off a incubator today that he is having problems with. It is new and I think it is operator error. So now I have 5 incubators in my laundry room and one in the store room. I look like I am chicken crazy. Only one is mine and one i use for hatching only and one is a stupid LG that the egg turner was broke and I didn't know it so I am giving it back.

Also mahonri also has his own thread about losing his rooster and breeding projects and the inspector came by today. Let me see if I can copy and paste.

Mahonri wrote:
Well the inspector came by, said everything looked great, looked for a roo, couldn't find any.

Said within 10 days I need an affidavit signed and notarized by my neighbors on the east giving me permission to keep the hens, otherwise I need to say goodbye to the hens.

He said straight out, that it wasn't my neighbors on the east who made the complaint... (but I'm thinking it may have been their daughter)... any ways...I'm going over with some eggs, I'll ask him if he AND his wife will sign the affidavit, if he says yes, I'll know they weren't the complainants and I'll take a notary over to have them sign it.

If he says no, then I'm done with chickens.

Maybe not chicken crazy, but like them a lot!

I want at least 2 more. My laundry room is already maxed out with bird cages, so I'm looking at a corner in the Bedroom or Craft room ,.

I am going to order a bunch of quail eggs and a few EE's and will order the Serama's when these are about out of the bator.

I so love my kids, but just getting into them....I cannot believe what he and Meg have gone through....If he can have 20 hens by rule, I would not give them up for any money or HOA....the neighbors are probably going by roos and complained...hens have nothing to do with it....so kiss my bootee....
