My husband was born and raised in Philly.....he has the same opinion.

We are moving into town (Yay!) and my husband doesn't want to bring the chickens.

If it comes down to it, does anyone want to add 4 hens (blue orpington, buff orpington, easter egger, and a cuckoo marans) to their flock for a few months? It would be like leasing chickens!
And maybe, if I wear him down, and he says we can have chickens again, and you aren't too terribly attached, I can have them back?

Thanks for the info. I'll keep that in mind. I'll bet that if you feel your life is being threatened/imminent danger etc. you might be able to protect yourself, but probably can't do anything to protect property, pets, and livestock. Just my guess. We love out chickens, I had the greatest cat for 13 years, so I'm not anti-animal/pet, but they are still just that, animals. How did we get to the point that animal life has equal or greater value than human life? Opps, my soapbox is starting to creak, may collapse, so I'd better get off it.

My husband does the same thing. He doesn't share my passion or help me build. He accuses me of going overboard, calls me a crazy chicken lady and keeps a mental tab of chicken expenses. But, when his buddies come over he shows off the coops and chickens and proudly tells them his "wife did it by herself". Little moments like that add validation. Great to know the Spousal support it there!!

Mikey- Your coop is definitely a good, solid well built coop. You did a great job!! (although, I can envision a curtain or two and some pastel paint....

The ccw instructors also recommended going to the hospital (if heaven forbid you had to shoot someone) before talking to the police. It will give you time to get your head together and get checked out by a Dr. and make that all important phone call to a lawyer. they both said to be prepared to spend about 50K on your defense - even if you are in the right!

I think it was a hung jury. Didn't seem to hurt Mikey's monsters at all.
