Ace Hardware sells sevin powder. I don;t know how well the granules will work--they are much less concentrates, and being granular don't seem like they would spread around as well. Might also try permethrin dust.

I completely forgot about ACE! I'll head there today. Thanks

Thanks Bob! He'll be my buddy for a few more days, then I'll put him back in with his girls. Maybe that'll motivate him

Oh...and get this: HE is the only one with bugs. I bathed both girls & didn't see a single bug on them. How weird is that?

*edited cuz I wanted to...

Actually not that uncommon. Konw how some folks seem to be a mosquito magnet while others just get a bite or two, even though they are in hte same places? Same thing can occur with birds and bugs.

I guess I didn't think about it that way. I just thought...weird...

He's been getting oatmeal, thick kefir, applesauce, smashed up chicken noodle soup, and ornacycline (sp ?) in the water. Should I skip the ornacycline water & just give gatorade/vitamin water instead?

I'll make him some scrambles later today...he likes those.

Bob's Henhouse :

Bill, we definitely have great horned owls here. We had a couple hanging around most of last year and early this year, then they were gone for a while, but I just heard them starting a few days ago again. DRAT! They were so brazen as to sit on my back porch and watch the babies until they decided which one they wanted! I have pics. At the old place, where I still have about 1/3 of my flock, (yes, I'm STILL moving) the girls quit going into the coop at night, preferring to sleep under the stars, or on top of the run instead of in the run on their perches. I have to round them all up though when the owls are about. At the new place they have to stay cooped up, or in the run until they figure out it is home now and must return to it at night. I'm still working on getting the nest boxes and roosts finished.

Howdy Bob,

Well great.... Knew they were up North and in the Mountains, but had only seen small Owls and Barn Owls until now here in Morristown. At least I know he'll be hard on the rodent population even though I will need to be a bit more careful with our pullets.....

I think it may be Noel, wasn't sure if we have them here or not, but my birds are in coop by the time I see this owl so far.....

When I lived north of Ft. Collins, CO, there was a pair of Great Horned owls that had a hatch on our street. The babies left the nest and hung out on the street for about a week. Two foot tall babies! They were just amazing! Even though they are chicken predators, I really love hawks, owls and eagles.

I saw what I think was a great horned owl last winter fly out of our trees. I'm more worried about my two little dogs, who would make nice sized owl meals.

We have another Flo (blue silkie) / Elvis (serama) chick (unplanned parenthood!). If anyone is interested in the little cutie, she/he is free to anyone on BYC that would like her/him as a pet. It looks like it will be both blue and yellow, mostly blue. It has the extra toes and is booted.
Thanks!!!

I can attest to how amazingly sweet and cute these Flo/Elvis babies are!! We have two very sweet cockerels from them that I am hoping stay their current sweet/not really crowing state
smile.png
If they don't I am going to be very sad....They have the silkie softness and head-tufts but serama stature and wings.

If we weren't full up with 10 OEGB chicks I would love to take in this little one too

I hope yours stay quiet

You know, Flo is pretty silent, so maybe they will not be loud either. Flo is the only hen that I never hear anything from, not even an egg song. Just sometimes a teensy humming noise. Do you have new pictures of yours? I would love to see what they look like.
