I think the breed sex-links has a dot on one or the other's head.
In black sex-links, the males should have a dot on their head, but not the females. In barred varieties (including cuckoo, which is a type of barring), the head spot is larger on males than on females. In red sexlinks, the males will be mostly white, whereas the females will be mostly yellow or red.
