Arizona Chickens

No, I havent tried that, but I will. The vet said if it is internal laying, it might resolve on its own. Ascities would be due a heart problem. How do you feed a "probiotic solution"? And how much cider vinegar in the water? She eats and drinks just like normal. And what does oregano oil do? Thanks in advance!

Oregano oil will due a lot of things if it's pure, or so my wife and her friends say. They just about live by those oils. It's been said that even cancer cells can't survive around oregano but what do I know?

I haven't used it much. Would it help with this stupid sinus headache I've had all week?
AZ chicken, I wish you luck, I'm sorry about your chicken.
Pastrymama, pm me if you can. What's going on with your BC's?

What is with that helicopter? I think they must think we're growing something here, they do flybys every night around 10-11pm for probably 20 minutes. My husband thought I was just being paranoid. I actually started putting it on the calender and clocking it. He finally believed me. They make a circle right around our neighborhood, I feel like they're circling my yard!

We also could use the ghetto bird as a clock. It would circle every night at 9 and 11 and of coarse the multiple times there are problems. We just figured they were predicting something was going to happen at the park or the apts and were right most of the time. Back when we could get the police calls on the scanner we would just sit outside and watch all the emergency people rush up and down the streets to all the various calls. Cheap entertainment I know but hey I'm CHEAP!

I think they don't know the difference between okra and pot?
It would be really funny to plant a yard full of sun hemp, just to see what happens.

I live SW of Falcon Field so the ghetto bird flight path is over my house as it heads to downtown/west Mesa. Oh, and we have the usual 3X a day circling at Frys on Greenfield and Main. During the winter the snowbirds cause about 3 wrecks a day there, 5-6 wrecks if it's senior discount day.

Hey, I go past you almost everyday to feed my horses!

Oregano oil is antibacterial. I'd probably use I as a topical but I'm not sure. We use it for ear infections in dogs, sore throats in people. A little goes a really long way.
Organic apple cider vinegar and homemade kefir ( I can give you kefir grains if you need) are your best bets for probiotics. Or, kombucha. I'd love to find some kombucha scoby, don't have that, yet. Just greed her the kefir, ACV you can put in water.
You can even give her a little bit of the kefir grains straight if you have enough to spare. Or the kombucha scoby.
The probiotics can help her body fight infection, the good bugs fight the bad bugs, it really does work, even when other medicines can't sometimes.

Thank you! She must be pretty sterile at this point as she is showing absolutely no signs of infection. Would you recommend using that as a preventative? I'm sure her days are numbered, she can't go on like this!

I'm so sorry.

With all this talk of lice, coryza, and other stuff wild birds give chickens, is there anything to do at all? I love my hens to free range as much as they can, but yipes, is the payoff worth it? Heck, I have only 2 laying hens, and 4 pullets that are 33 weeks old. I already know not to expect eggs from my Marans, but the Ameraucanas? Come on! 33 weeks!

My Ameraucanas and Marans have almost quit laying.

Everytime I say I'm going to rehome my old leghorn, she lays an egg.

I've got to rehome about 8 hens at present

PM... so sad for you. I got infectious bronchitis once in the coop and lost about that many birds in two days.

Haven't had a bird die since July... since I put the new AC unit in, I haven't lost any birds.

My broody is just loving these little chicks. If I come near, she sounds an alarm and they all scurry under her.... Amazing instinct.
