I would be very concerned about toe-picking. Chicks peck at anything that looks unusual or interesting.

Our girls didn't toe pick at all. That was a plus as I was concerned about that prior to adding the polish. We did use dark colors that my daughter had instead of pinks and reds.

I need clarification on "squatting" prior to egg laying. Do the pullets squat randomly as their roaming about,or is it that squat when you pet them? My two laying hens squat when you reach out to pet them. My young ones just run away, BUT...today one of my Ameraucanas squatted when I reached out, just like my laying hens. They've been in and out of the nesting boxes for weeks and their little faces are red.

Oh boy, how egg-citing. I say in a week or two you will be posting pics for us of the first egg. My girls will squat if I walk past them. They get a nice back rub and then they shake and all is well in the chicken world.

Just a quick personal update-I went in for an ultrasound today, and found out that the babies are not viable, because of being severely conjoined.
