I bought some mealworms last night. I have 5 new best friends. This morning I went in to change their water and all 5 six week olds decided my hands were food. Three of them even let me pick them up. I had to go in and get the worms to give them some treats. Enchilada (head hen of the 6 week olds) flew out of the coop and on to my arm. I think they like these little things. I am hoping to befriend Cattatori with mealworms too. She's still quit skiddish but I think she's getting used to me. She escaped the run and coop yesterday and the dog chased her into the garage. I got her cornered and was able to catch her and hold her for about a half hour. I wish I would have have the meal worms at that time. I did get her calm enough to allow me not to hold her wings down while she sat on my lap. Are all EE's skiddish or are their any friendly ones?

DH got our nipple watering system done. We used a 3 gallon cat little bucket and pvc pipe. I can fill the bucket from the outside of the coop but the water runs along one of the day roosts in the run. Now to teach them to use it.

EE's are usually super friendly, just give her a little time. Mine are so friendly it is annoying. They instantly mob me when walking into the run. With 15 chickens underfoot and 2 or 3 trying to hop on your head or shoulders, it can be quite a challenge not to trip over anyone.
 
Don't get sold on puppies too soon cuz the end of April I'll have some Golden X Choc Lab Retrievers that will be beautiful... and probably free if she has more than 6!

I hear that works for babies too. THE STORK BROUGHT IT!

I'm still trying to convince myself that puppies are a big pain. The past several dogs I have had have been senior rescues. It's so hard having your heart ripped out after just a few years of loving them. I've had Coco (crossed fingers) 2 1/2 years now and she is still going strong. They estimated she was 8 or 9 when I got her. But she is a chi and that isn't that old for them. She still loves her walks. Love the little babies I'm hatching out and the guinea pigs.

But I'm trying to be realistic. She has epileptic seizures about twice a year. And they are bad. But not frequent enough to put her on meds. I was told they would be harder on her body than the seizures. And she can't go on my walks with me. Well, she can but I end up carrying her own the way home. She isn't overweight or anything like that. Just older and small.

Poor CoCo. Sounds like a real sweet dog. Share a picture! Denise my best friend owns the Standard Poos. Depends on what you will call expensive. I don't think they will be real bad price wise. Depends on what you like in a dog. Golden/Labs can be nice also.

I too just built a waterer using the nipples. Once I saw all 4 of them peck at it I removed all other water sources. I just kept showing it to them and hitting the nipple until they figured it out. I spread scratch right under it to which helped because they kept hitting the nipple and getting water dripped on their backs while they were pecking at the scratch. I made mine using 4" PVC Sewer and Drain pipe. It holds just over 3 gallons of water when full. Here is a picture of it.
